I guess it will be awhile before gays can marry in Alabama.
If you vote against love, you are evil. Whether you realize it or not, you are petitioning your government to take away the rights of other groups of people.
FUCK ALABAMA!
FUCK THE KKK!

D’oh! At first I missed the year in your title. I was thinking this was a figure for decades ago. I thought the post was showing how attitudes change, that one day people will have more relaxed attitudes of other lifestyles or other forms of marriage….
But now I see the “2000″ very clearly and the statistic provokes a very different response from me – it makes me sad.
June 13, 2006 at 5:43 PM
I know this is really late, but here’s the link to back up your claim:
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/11/07/alabama.interracial/
My siblings are going to college in that state. They don’t understand why I keep criticizing their choice of college. I told them about this and they got all ticked off at the insult. I think they should be getting more ticked off at the backwards thinking of the South, but whateva!
December 27, 2006 at 3:53 PM
Greg — I totally agree. Mark I went to college in Alabama too — I’m hoping that was part of why he dropped out. :)

[...] , Articles , Politics , News We all knew Alabama sucked already, when 40% of people there voted against interracial marriage. But did you know if you are a lady, kyou are not allowed to legally pleasure yourself? At least, [...]
June 28, 2007 at 8:41 PM
Not everyone in Alabama is racist. We are not as prejudice againts people as you people are against Alabama and the South. So if you don’t like the South, STAY THE F*** OUT!!!!!!!!
May 20, 2009 at 8:26 PM
the title simply says, that alabama is not as racism-free as most plays like the US or Canada. And I have never really heard someone be predjudice about the South.
April 27, 2010 at 2:47 PM
EXACTLY. I am from Alabama and many of my best friends are of a different race. Anyone who is racist or against interracial marriage is usually the older folks….as in the ones who were around during the Civil War and such.
April 27, 2010 at 2:50 PM
Uh… Civil war ended in 1865. Assuming you have to be 5 yrs old to remember things… You’d have to be born in 1860 to remember the civil war.
Nice try, but you basically just blamed the racism problem on people who are 140 years old.
Thing is, they aren’t the ones who voted.
They’re dead.
Most voters today were born a good 60 years after the civil war was over.
Nice try, but your explanation doesn’t quite pass full muster.
September 12, 2011 at 3:17 PM
Grow the f*** up!
July 2, 2007 at 12:05 PM
AlabamaRules (alabama@yahoo.com), You proved my point utterly –
Alabamans are so xenophobic, fucked up, and rednecky in their thoughts, that they ask people to “STAY THE F*** OUT” simply for having a different opinion.
You, sir, are a xenophobic idiot redneck. You are exactly why I am against Alabamans and ‘southern-thinking’ people.
You suck, and Alabama *fucking sucks*.
May 18, 2012 at 6:15 PM
Totally agree with you pal. Alabama can suck my balls for being so backward thinking
September 5, 2007 at 10:33 PM

By the way, I found my half part baby on a great site. He is really gorgeous, even sometimes he is a liittle shy. -:) If you try, you also can be the next lucky one. LOL. Here it is http://www.interracialchats.com .
Bye!! and good luck to you all.

^^ I let that comment approve simply because:
1) To show people JUST HOW “TARGETED” comment spam can be
2) askimet didn’t catch this is as spam, BECAUSE it was done so well.
I’ve had 2,604 approved comments, and 2,287 comments caught as spam by askimet.
That makes 46.75% of all comments spam.

40% of Alabamans voted against IR. Close to 55% of the whites voted against it and it won because 95% of the blacks voted for it. Mountain Brook, AL which is a rich white suburb of Birmingham of the Natalee Holloway fame or notoreity, supposedly went 70% against, and these folks are rich southern whites, not rednecks. Granted, most of them are descended from southern planters who owned slaves and attitudes have been passed on for generations.
October 14, 2007 at 11:43 AM
Thanks for your perspective, George. It’s truly sad. If I were dictator, I would force these people to be more free than they want to be :D

November 8, 2010 at 3:23 PM
It does not effect me your words mean shit.
November 8, 2010 at 3:28 PM
The proper word is “affect”, you illiterate white trash.
November 8, 2010 at 3:32 PM

The stuff you say about pther peoples mother lets talk about your ugly fucking mother she probaly got hit with the ugly stiuck giving birth to you lmfao.
November 8, 2010 at 3:34 PM
The fact that you’re so mad here means that you are a racist. Why else would you be so mad at an anti-racist posting?
Until you learn to grow up and act like a human being, nobody here is going to consider you one.
September 12, 2011 at 3:20 PM
I agree with Clint. Good on ya Clint! :D

October 22, 2007 at 3:56 PM

October 26, 2007 at 9:12 AM
if Alabamans hate interracial marriage so much, then I want more people to go to those sites and have interracial marriages JUST OT PISS OFF the Alabamans…
Bhahaha!!!
November 18, 2007 at 6:14 PM
And by the way the ban was lifted 7 years ago, so why did you bring this up now? Nowadays the racism problem is coming mainly from the blacks who are committing a large majority of the crimes. Last year in Chicago, 73% of homicides were committed by black people and only 6 % by white people. Blacks and whites both make up roughly 1/3 of the pop. And this was just one example Just check the US crime statistics. And nowadays Alabama is the state with the least race-related hate crimes reported. The situation is quite similar in other southern states. Just check Statemaster.com.
November 18, 2007 at 7:11 PM
If we are to believe you, MaeR, then the 40% of people who voted against interracial marriage (all racists) have somehow magically had a change of heart in the last 7 years.
Attitudes don’t change that quickly. Nice attempt to throw in some statistics but that says nothing of racism in Alabama.
Fuck Alabama. If it burns, I’ll laugh.
December 17, 2007 at 1:51 AM
Alabama is not racist we just believe people should be with their own kind. It s not our fault blacks can t pass the bar exam. ok
September 18, 2009 at 9:55 AM
But they can be president of the usa
January 16, 2012 at 6:07 PM
So you think people should be with their own kind? Then why won’t you let me marry my boyfriend. I am gay incase it didn’t occur to you. He is my own kind…lol
January 16, 2012 at 6:10 PM
damn good point!
December 18, 2007 at 12:22 PM
“Klan”-destin, you just proved my point. Not only are you a fucking scumbag racist, but you have the audacity to claim it is not racism.
Go to hell.
April 27, 2010 at 2:59 PM
okay so you made fun of “Alabamans” actually better called as “Alabamians”…
because someone said “STAY THE FUCK OUT.” because of your opinions…
yet you say “Go to hell” for someone else’s.
Wow. I do strongly think that racism is horrible. But you don’t live in Alabama. You have no idea how it is. There is racism everywhere. Even in the city I live in… and we never hear about it.
I have many friends that I go to school with that are black, hispanic, and white. We don’t hear about racism. Would you like to know why?
Because it is the elderly people who are racist. There are literally none that I know of that I go to school with.
ROLL TIDE. (Mark Ingram is black…and Alabama LOVES him :D)
April 27, 2010 at 3:01 PM
The difference is, my opinion is about freedom, his is about racist fascism. That guy has Klan in his name, can’t type, and is clearly a racist by his bar exam comments. If you are defending him, you’ve only proven my point further.
February 13, 2008 at 11:24 PM

May 12, 2008 at 8:28 AM
im 44 yrs old and so my memory seems to be getting terrible but i do remember this coming up for vote in 2000 and i voted against it too,,,but what they dont tell you in this is that there were other things in the amendment that made people vote against it. but i dont remember the specifics. i voted no on it and i dont care one way or another who people marry,,,its their business. remember thats how politicians work,,,seems especially true in alabama. they add things to try to ram other things through,,,hence ading interracial marriage.
June 3, 2008 at 7:23 PM
I lived in Florida all of my life where i never really saw black people much. i never really thought about them at all except that they should be free Etc, and such. florida was never a big slave state and we only really have blacks in certain very old towns that were in fact slave ports in their history.
i just moved to Birmingham area about 3 or so years ago. Birmingham is around 70 % black. Let me tell you what, the older people they say hi, how ya doin, good morning and all of that other respectful stuff.
The Black people that are my age tend to 9 times out of 10 say anything possible to make me feel like shit.
I guess they are still bitter. But the funny thing is that they werent there either. they are too young to have been. I guess they heard a lot of things from their parents. I sure wasnt there, im too young, and i grew up in Florida. so why give me an attitude, yanno?
so my attitude is getting a bit more negative, and i dont like that.
Id never support the klan or rascism. But we all need to treat each other with respect so this attitude doesnt change among a lot of both white and blacks.
September 18, 2009 at 10:20 AM
I am from Florida too there is racism there too. I have witnessed it and been treated badly because of my race. I was married to a as you guys are putting it a white woman. In my home town i lived in we left because it. It was so bad they used to corner my wife in stores if we happened to be on different isles and call her names like N-lover. This is not the only things that have happened to me i am Latin. Black hair dark skin. I know what your talking about when i have also witnessed black people at there worst. This being said. We have to have compassion for these people and people in general. I am not a fan of anything that divides us. I have not allowed what has happened to me at the hands of blacks or whites effect how i treat others. I treat everyone as i would like to be treated i smile and say hello to everyone i meet. Most times it is returned some times not. But that is ok too. I believe in humanity and think that all people deserve respect and kindness. I Also believe in loving and taking care of oneself too. If it is where you live that is toxic then you have the right to choose where you live. It may take years for people to come together. I hope not. i think we all are inherently good just fears get the best of us. May all of the steps of humanity be blessed and may you all find peace love and happiness.

June 3, 2008 at 7:30 PM
as far as interracial marriage goes, think about it for a second. Just think about it. The White side of the family would have their hair standing straight up in most cases and so would the blacks.
The child would not be truly accepted by either side.
I believe we can get along in all aspects except that one.
April 1, 2010 at 4:15 PM
Listen,
That’s part of the process. It takes time. It’s always hardest for the first generation. By giving into that argument you are supporting a social system that tears apart a lot of otherwise great couples; it’s hard to move forward without the support of the social structure that has surrounded you since birth. You need to get over it; the fact that the first generation will possibly need to endure a lack of acceptance doesn’t mean it shouldn’t happen at all. On the flip side, after that first generation, each subsequent descendant will have been the the product of an interracial union and therefor will more than likely be much more open to the idea moving forward. Within one generation, that problem is essentially gone.
As someone who has been in an interracial relationship for more than four years, and as part of a couple that has been taking painstaking steps toward marriage, I can honestly say that I’m sick of hearing this attitude from everyone who thinks they’re somehow protecting potential children from some sort of social isolation.
Stop thinking about it for only a second, take a little but more time to look deeper at the scenario, and stop talking out of your arse.
June 20, 2008 at 2:05 AM
I belong to one of the oldest and aged results of race mix consequences in a town. Its call Puerto Rico. Its very ironic how people who does not have clear race definitions are racist among thems , including me . What I try to say is : Every situation and or condition always goes from one extreme to another.
So if this is the way , We have to maitain integrity loving our self and everyone avoiding race mixing . We have to respect future generations of 100% whiteness , 100% blackness , 100% asianess.
The caucasians who turns it ships to the western shore are getting terminated by a cultural downward situation accepted and inplemented and slow cooked in the USA.
What’s happening that being White is a crime ?
I wonder why in every White/black couples its a relation 9 to 1
that most of the time (90%)is black men and white women.
I’m not racist Im just a person who loves the real meaning of INTEGRITY.
We have to protect countries who had more changes of race cleaning like Norway before its to late.
July 7, 2008 at 2:45 PM
To the person named Klandestin I am black educated from Harvard University and passed the Bar. I am 39 and will retire in the next five years with Millions in cash and assets.
So what I am saying to you is KISS MY BLACK ASS. Did I mention that I was born and raised in ALABAMA.
I dont have any hatred for anyone of any race I think you should only marry who loves you no matter what the color, much love to you Clint give em hell. LOL
July 23, 2008 at 1:22 PM
To the ignorant morons who posted on this thread…in reality, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS RACE! It is an outdated concept MODERNLY based as a justification for the north atlantic slave trade. The idea eventually filtered into science, where eugenicists made unscientifically based claims that there are vast genetic differences between the “races.” Contemporary genetic research has shown this to not be the case. Simply put, there is only one chromosome that differentiates phenotypes between the “races.” And all it does is control skin pigment…that’s it!!!
Every human being (unless mentally incapacitated on some level) has the same ability to develop verbal communication skills, intellect, establish culture, and fall in love. Yes, the typical individual is sexually attracted to those who resemble themselves. Though, this is a socially constructed value. It’s time now as modern individuals to break down these retro viewpoints. We are all members of the same species who inhabit this tiny little rock shooting through space orbiting an insignificant star in one galaxy among trillions in the universe. How about we stop fighting over ancient differences and begin living as one.
So, to you retards who think we should “preserver the races.” I truly hope you die young, avoid procreation, or step out into the realities of our modern world. By the way…I’m a graduate student going to a school in the heart of Alabama. For the short time I have been here, I’ve noticed very little racism. And if anything, blacks tend to segregate themselves from the whites (can you really blame them). And though the whites here seem to put on their smiling faces and super nice southern attitude, and tell me “Alabama is not the same as it was;” I think the racist attitudes still run deep here in many people, white and black. I swear, the tension here can be cut with a butter knife.

Hate is evil? So you must be saying that you should love everyone…despite their opinions.
Making remarks like this will send you straight to hell along with the ones that you wish there.

WANTED: Picture of alabama with a nuclear explosion over it to add to the effect of this posting.
August 17, 2008 at 7:50 AM
I have lived in Alabama and I have lived in the North. I believe that I have seen more segregation in the North than in Alabama especially in the past 35 years. The first time I visited the North, Ohio. I saw whole neighborhoods of only whites. No Blacks any where around. I asked where are the Blacks. They are in there place. Their section of the city. I thought hum, didn’t we intigrate in the 60′s well I guess we did in the South at least. I saw this as well in New York city and Chicago. I was pumping gas in another very Northern city ,in Michigan, when I saw a car come racing into the station. A young Black male ran out of the car into the station, behind him was a car load of Northern whites who said, ” You better get your Black ass in there you N”’ or well kill you. I said to myself If this was Alabama that would be all over world tomorrow. Then I moved to the North West and found out about the Arian nations and how racist they are. Then I went to the west New Mexico and saw the worst the Native Americans. It all became clear to me then. The YANKEE slave traders and Indian genociders decendants love to point at the South because they are covering up their own filth. I admit that Alabama has had it’s racist past but I say that it is better now than what I experienced when I lived and travelled in the North. Alabama is definately more conservative than the Yanks but not more racist. I have seen it with my own eyes and they don’t lie. If you Yanks think that Alabama is drive through then drive on through and go somewhere else. We in the South Black and White can work out our own problems without you messing things up worse. You need to clean your own dirty laundry in my opinion!!!!!

I am from Alabama and there are African Americans and Whites who marry there. I am 52 years old and one of my high school classmates went though a divorce from his spoiled white lady and then he married a nice African American lady and is happy. I know of another man whose wife left him for ANOTHER WOMAN. He also met a nice African American lady and married. So there is definately inter racial marriage in Alabama. This vote is not all White for I have heard many older African Americans in Alabama who say that Blacks should marry Blacks and Whites whites. And many of us there know that the older generation ,70 and 80′s, though they have come a long way some still don’t think that innerracial marriage is best. I don’t agree with them but I still love them. I have lived in the North. Yankees don’t have anything to say to us with all their arrogance and hypocracy. Do you think that we are blind there are more KKK in the North as well as other extremist groups. Alabama ran the KKK out in 1980 and broke them financially there. OFCOURSE THIS WAS NEVER NEWS IN THE NORTH. Some have come back since and now they are against the Mexicans, who by the way, are hard workers and deserve a chance to better their existence. I am from Alabama and I also hate the KKK. But yank you’d better deal with your own evil. Get the log out of your own eye. By the way Yank is your neighborhood intigrated? Mine was in the 1980′s. In my experience in the North you are still segregated by neighborhoods. Don’t waist your time hypocrite pointing at Alabama while you are in need of change. You have always had this problem and it come from your past as we in the South have had ours. New England only shipped 300,000 African Slaves and sold then in South Carolina and Georgia after we became a nation under the American flag. This is in Hugh Thomas the Altantic Slave Trade. And not only that they shipped another 300,000 slave and sold them in Brazil and Cuba. They had 1500 slave ships the second largest slave trade in history 3/4 the size of Britains which was the largest. It went on until 1870. It was illegal from 1810 but the law wasn’t enforced. You can see where alot of the money came for you region to start their industries plus they had the South paying 85% of all federal taxes because they taxed all imported goods and this was the Souths trade with Europe. And we won’t mention the Native American genoside. And even during the Civil War there were still 5 slave states in the Union, Delaware, Maryland, West Virgina, Kentucky and Missouri. For the young Yank who wants to nuke Alabama. TAKE YOUR NUKE AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH IT!!!!
April 27, 2010 at 3:09 PM
This is completely true. I know of many black people who are against interracial marriage.
October 13, 2008 at 1:25 PM
I go to school at Auburn. This state reeks of racism and hatred of homosexuality. The people here have, for the most part, been brainwashed from their early days. They have been told (not all, but most), either directly or indirectly, that “they” (everyone that is different) are at least one of these three: wrong/inferior/evil. UAB is a haven for rational thought and open minds… I went there once… I loved it… my major changed and now I’m stuck in the shit hole known as Auburn Alabama. I’ll be voting for Obama, but my family wont… they think he’s a muslim… and wont listen to me when I tell them the truth. My father yelled at me when I told one of his friends that “yes, it is infact racist to not vote for someone because they are black”. A response to a very common statement I hear down here. The statement is modeled like this “Now I’m not racist, but “. I’ll be leaving this god forsaken state as soon as I graduate… I fear the Alabama stigma will follow me though…
March 31, 2010 at 12:56 PM
War damn eagle!!!! So if your racists for not voting for a man because he black… Doesn’t that also make you racist for not voting for a man because he is white? That’s what most blacks did… They saw a black man run for pres and didn’t even look at his agenda… How’s all that hope and change workin out for you? Change has def happened. Our country is in an even bigger mess than it was with bush. And true we do not support the gays in Alabama. But why should we go against the word of God? We won’t be the ones burning in hell. Maybe one day you’ll open your eyes to the truth. Until then God bless.
March 31, 2010 at 12:59 PM
Thank you for proving my point about the idiocy of Alabama.
April 27, 2010 at 3:15 PM
I am an all-A student at an advanced academic high school in Alabama. You are very judgmental of our state. This is like saying: I’m a cheerleader, so I must be stuck up. NO.
Just because someone is from Alabama does not make them racist.
I was born in Georgia and I moved to Alabama when I was in the 3rd grade. In fact, Alabama is not the most entertaining place to live. I will add this though. I visited California last summer and I realized that it was full of rude & stuck up people. Alabama has some of the most friendly people you could ever meet. Anyone who is racist is most likely in the nursing home.
April 27, 2010 at 3:17 PM
You mean except for the 40% of people who aren’t friendly to you if you marry the wrong race.
Make up what you want. Voting records don’t lie.
“Just because someone is from Alabama does not make them racist.”
And I never said it did. Funny strawman attack, though.
April 27, 2010 at 3:17 PM
“Anyone who is racist is most likely in the nursing home.”
So how do they get those nursing home people to the voting polls anyway?

Oh yeah, I should add:
http://www.fuckthesouth.com
Highest crime rates, highest divorce rates, lowest education levels, and they want us to clean up OUR mess first? Heh, they should look to us as an example. But no, I guess that liberal “tolerance” is evil. Tolerance of free black people was evil, just like tolerance of women voting was evil, then tolerating un-segregated schools, then tolerating inter-racial marriage. They’re still working on tolerating gay marriage, but give them some time. Thaarrr abit slooowwwww.

Y’all had a chance to rid yourself of the association. Looking like a better option every day, eh?
October 24, 2008 at 4:40 PM
God did not create geranimals, we do not live in a color coded world. Love is hard to find and if you find it in another race or even in the same sex. You are lucky to have found it at all. I too live in Alabama prejudice has not died down here. Mostly in the areas that are poverty sticken (and I am not talking about the black areas either) more like the back woods antics here. Hey the word “colored” is still used here quietly behind the hand so no one can hear. Just plain ignorance and uneducated individuals. Lord help us!
October 29, 2008 at 5:11 PM
Here’s an Alabama success story:
My father (white) lives in Alabama and remarried and had two kids. One of them moved to California and fell in love with a black girl. :)
When I visit my father in Alabama, I wear my MLK t-shirt and buttons everywhere. I don’t want to be lumped together with all of the developmentally-retarded white supremacists.
The argument that it’s not racism and that they just believe their kind should stick together is beyond laughable. They’re actually surprisingly more stupid than they look.
October 29, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Hey JW, please don’t bring God into this debate. God doesn’t like racists, dumbass. DUH.

The proper word is “you’re”, you illiterate redneck.
November 15, 2008 at 11:48 AM
I am a full blooded redneck , that is in your eyes , I was born and raised in Alabama from the most raciest county in Alabama ” Cullman ” I served in the Army for 10 years and suffered wounds from my country , I have served and fought with men and women of all races and am proud to call the my brothers and sisters. Don’t judge my state over rumors and people you meet. I love Alabama and am proud to raise my kids here , My black friends love Alabama and are on the couch laughing at these post.As far a gays , who gives a fuck , don;t live here if you don’t want. We are simple people that don’t have all the drama of other states unless people bring it to us , look at the alabama National Guard and thier service to Iraq and the war on Terror and that have died for your freedom. Any one that does not like us for who we are can go to hell and stay out of our state , You can talk shit on the internet and hide , OH yea SEC , Alabama # 1 in the nation , sit on that one for a while.
November 15, 2008 at 4:16 PM
You *almost* sounded like what you were saying was the truth, until we got to your “don’t live here” part, which is laughable. To the rest of the world, I hope your comment proves my point. But you are right in one thing: You are far better than most of Alabama. Thank you for your service.
But something is still judged by it’s worst aspects. 47% of voters in Alabama voted to ban interracial marriage in 2004. That’s frickin’ ridiculous by any standard whatsoever. Even the Taliban has softened their political stance in the past few years, now allowing women to drive and go to school, and now allowing televisions. Yet we have Alabamans in 2004 voting like it’s 1954, having made less progress in 50 years than The Taliban, who include Islamic terrorists, have made in 5. That makes America look pretty bad.
Even if some of you are good, 47% is not a negligible number.
November 19, 2008 at 10:23 PM
why are yall getting so mad at alabama…..i could pick ou so many things wrong about all of yalls states and just blast every one of you guys states……oh i bet yall are all obama fans……which means yall are AGAINST LIFE….
April 27, 2010 at 3:19 PM
I hope that was a joke.

I am from the South of England, and i am doing a project in media on Forrest Gump and looking at racism in Alabama, i personally believe that race and ‘colour’ doesnt matter but it clearly does to some people. Over all there isnt a right or wrong answer, if there was a right answer then everyone would ‘know’ the same and life would be pretty boring because nobody would have an opinion. I dont know what it is like to live in a racist community so i can only sympathise not empathise.
December 4, 2008 at 2:27 PM
I do not understand the meanings of racism. Why are people racist?
What is the point?
I have so many questions to ask, but I do not receice any answers!
This would be as I have not had an expierience of the racist society. My mummy told me that I am very imaginative and I enjoy participating in debates, so she is exactlly correct ay?
January 4, 2009 at 11:34 PM
Yall are killing me, I’m from Mobile Alabama. And I would never let a queer marry another queer or a negro marry a white folk! Come on now!!!
January 23, 2009 at 9:39 PM
Hey I am a current resident of Alabama and always have been my entire life. I just wanna say that everyone here isn’t racist. I can say that with the utmost confidence mainly because I’m mixed (half white, half black). So yea clearly everyone here isn’t racist or I wouldn’t even be here right now….
January 28, 2009 at 12:44 PM
Yes, racism is a problem here. It is everywhere, unfortunately. I’m an Alabamian (note that “Alabaman” is not a word; think Canada and Canadian) and I’ve lived all over the US and the world, but I’ve moved back here. I’ve experienced racism everywhere I’ve been. I’m thinking about Berkeley, California – very liberal place, the city logo was at the time a bunch of multi-colored faces meant to symbolize diversity – but the place is totally gentrified! And they’re all scared of Oakland. It’s so transparent. And the midwest, where diversity doesn’t exist, is very racist indeed. My brother lives in Ohio near New Vienna, which has a huge Aryan nation presence. I saw folks walking around in public with kkk tshirts in a suburb of Cincinnati. That would never happen in the South. Those punk ass skinheads would be beaten senseless, deservedly.
Alabama isn’t worse off than most places in this backward land. And I’d agree with some other posters that the South tends to be a scapegoat for the rest of the country – a place where everyone can project their issues.
What an unhelpful rant, an unhelpful dialog. I hope you all find peace with yourselves and with the world.

i am a mixed hispanic and white guy moved to alabama from texas i am an american soldier who fought beside men of all races and i was quite a permiscuous teen. no one ever gave me any trouble about messing with black or white females while in school. the vote was primarily conducted through the views of older people whos view are much different then our younger gernerations. all races white black and hispanic in older generations believe in racial integrity correct me if i used the wrong term, but its not there fault its what they know. upon moving here from texas i noticed distinct differences in alabama if you are white you are really white and if your black your really black but in texas it isnt an issue… in high school one of the black girls i dated assuming i was white asked me if it felt strange messing with one of her race and the question puzzeled me alabama has an identity issue in texas we all know who we are and how proud we are of our accomplishments as a state but alabamians are dead set on being like everyone else. i live here now in a small town in north alabama and i dont have any problems i think everyone including the south has a twisted view of alabama.

You are exactly why I am against Alabamans and ’southern-thinking’ people.
You suck, and Alabama *fucking sucks*.
—–I AM FROM THE NORTH AND I AGREE WITH ALABAMARULES… STAY THE f*K OUT!!!! THERE GOES YOUR THEORY THAT SOUTHERNERS ARE SO f*KED UP THAT THEY SAY ‘STAY THE f*K OUT’ BECAUSE I READILY AGREE. AS A MATTER OF FACT, GET THE f*K OUT OF THIS NATION. PIG. BIGOTED A$$HOLE. IF ANY SOUTHERNER WROTE THE HATEFUL SH!T YOU WRITE, HE’D BE CONSIDERED A NAZI. GO ROT, YOU DISGUSTING FILTH.
April 27, 2010 at 3:21 PM
FromTheNorth, you managed to prove that assholes live outside of Alabama. Congratulations!
But since your IP address appears to come from Iowa or South Dakota – http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation – It appears you’ve only proven that rednecks are stupid, whether above or below the Mason-Dixon line.
February 17, 2009 at 1:13 AM
Well, I’ve read all of the posts, and I agree with parts of ALMOST all of them. Now I have a few things to say. The first is that I’m from Alabama, and very proud to be. I think everyone should be proud of their state. The second is that just because you are from Alabama does not automatically make you a racist or homophobic. Saying all people from Alabama are racist is just like saying all Muslims are terrorists, or all African Americans are gang members. You can’t look at ANY group of people and assume they are all the same, and that includes white southerners. The third point I would like to make is you cannot judge a place or it’s people, without even knowing them. I happen to know quite a few interracial couples (my brother and my sister-in-law are one of them ) and they have never had any problems. Matter of fact, they both agree they have encountered more anti-interracial sentiments in San Diego than Alabama. Interracial marriage is legal here, but gay marriage is not, nor is it legal in a lot of other states. The last thing I would like to say is look at the facts http://www.humanrights.org . You will find more hate crimes in so-called “tolerant” states than anywhere in the south. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
When I tell any truth, it is not for the sake of convincing those who do not know it, but for the sake of defending those that do. ~William Blake
February 23, 2009 at 7:04 PM
Well… I’ve just managed to come across this blog. As a native Alabamian I would agree racism is far from dead there. But if you ask me it’s far from dead everywhere else too.
First of all let’s not forget that 40% is less than half. If 40% were against then 60% were either for or undecided. Also from what I understand interracial marriage is on a slow rise in alabama.
Then again a poll I looked at from June 4-24 of 2007 17% of Americans disaprooved of interacial marriage.
Now Clint, it seems you’ve got your heart set on hating Alabama and it’s people so I won’t try and convince you otherwise. As to be heard where ear is none, as lead to grave in marble stone, my song may pierce your heart as soon. Sufice it to say I am one Alabamian who isn’t racist. I happen to think Alabama is a wonderful place dispite it’s short comings. I don’t agree with a lot of your agruments here but some of my fellow Alabamians make pretty shitty arguments too. So there it is.
April 27, 2010 at 3:23 PM
Well, JTR, put it this way:
I wouldn’t step foot someplace where 40% of people vote like assholes.
I also wouldn’t step foot someplace where 40% of people were terrorists.
It says nothing about the other 60% — except that I feel sorry for them for having to be around the other 40%.

Hi
Im from England and stumbled across this page, me and all my friends were shocked at some of the racist attitudes within.
I would just like to point out that we all are infact the same race so racism itself seems rather foolish! Im doing my PhD in biochemistry and I can assure you that we all bleed red, have the same internal organs and our chemistry is identical unless we get ill.
If we choose to dislike someone because of their skin colour then it logically follows that we should also be against people when they get tanned or sunburnt. Maybe we should even dislike those people who turn orange with too much fake tan?! Logically we should also form factions against people with different colour hair etc….
I never understood why people are unable to accept someone has different colour skin and yet we can accept if someone has different hair colour, gender, eye colour etc.
I would also like to point out in England the question of interracial marriage isn’t even raised people are people simple. I would really apppreciate it if someone could give a logical arguement as to why people cannot mary between races?! Take care

Mike, Did your black friends have plans to attend the Klan rallies by opposing Klan groups that was scheduled for Cullman in late 2007? Cullman is a “sun down” town. Google that one. Do you REALLY think they would have felt welcome?
April 6, 2009 at 9:09 AM
“Alabama ran the KKK out in 1980 ”
Unfortunately, this is not true. In 1985 I could still see the signs, “Klan Rally Tonight” pointing down some side road on Sand Mountain. I, too, thought they were gone. In fact, they still are not (2009). What boggles my mind is the benevolence extended towards them by the state of Alabama and its citizens. Alabama, why are your churches sitting on the sidelines and not working one on one to counsel your neighbors? Alabama does not have a hate crime reporting law, therefore, their atrocities go unreported. A state such as Alabama should understand that a most conservative value is to lift up and look out for those who have no power to do it for themselves, whether it be the blacks, the legal Mexicans or Asians and their descendents. However, a compassionate method must be undertaken to return illegals to their respective countries and for them to be kept out. Because as we know, Jesus Christ said, “In as much as ye have done it to the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” We were also given the story of the good Samaritan and the golden rule. These are conservative values and ones which Alabama should take to heart in its policies. These are also good economic values.
As far as the slaves sold to Georgia and South Carolina (same post). Please recheck your history. Georgia outlawed slaves while South Carolina did not. As a result the labor intensive coastal plantation owners along the South Carolina coast flourished, while those in Georgia did not. The political power was vested in these counties and subsequently, Georgia changed.

April 9, 2009 at 3:00 PM
Those who post comments like this are every bit as ignorant as the “rednecks” they verbally abuse.
“The South is racist. Fuck Alabama.”
No educated, intelligent person would make such a statement. However, self important pseudo intellectuals do so constantly.
The fact is that prejudice against a person because of race, religion, gender, etc. is, TODAY, not socially acceptable. Societies all over the world have AND DO discriminate, from African countries to old and developed European countries. In this day and age, in some societies (of which the United States is a member) such discrimination is not socially acceptable in most educated circles. This does not mean that the old white grandfather who uses the word “negro” should be considered a bad person, nor does it mean that the old black grandmother who does not want her grandson to date a white woman is a bad person. It means that the Latino man who beat a gay teenager is a bad person, the white man who took advantage of a black man is a bad person, the black man who shot a middle eastern man is a bad person, etc. Racism exists in so many facets. Only the ignorant believe it is black and white, pun intended.
Until recently, many white people in the south, most especially poor white people, were raised to believe they were better than black people in particular. Anyone can be tempted by the idea that they are better than someone else. It makes the world seem a little less harsh. Some people are still raised that way. Many black people were raised to be wary of white people for fear they would be taken advantage of or worse. And still are. Educated people believe both of these attitudes to be outdated, but they still exist. Proving them to be right will never, ever help. Setting an example will. The people who TRULY believe that racism is evil also believe that prejudice against the poor and undereducated is evil. Being kind to those around you, no matter your skin color, ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, etc. will win over far more people than ignorant, self important statements like “FUCK SOUTHERNERS !!!1111!!!”. That attitude is EXACTLY the VERY SAME attitude that makes people of one race feel they are better than another. They make no attempt whatsoever to find out more about the people they want to subjugate and it is therefore much easier to remain both ignorant and prejudiced.
The FACT is that Rodney King was beaten in L.A. and race riots take place in regions across this country. Take Miami, a city with extremely established communities based on race. Miami is in no way a southern community but continues to struggle with race relations-and people of all races are responsible for the struggle.
By the way, those telling blacks how they feel are my favorite misguided bleeding white hearts. ;)
I am white and will never, ever know what it’s like to be black, hispanic, asian, etc. and they will not know what it is like to be white. My friends are from all races and religions, gay and straight, American and not. We talk about issues such as this frequently because it’s important to educate, but we will never really understand anothers’ point of view. I have many non-white friends that love their home state of Alabama and I have many non-white friends from Chicago, L.A., etc. that prefer Alabama. And I have friends both white and not that would prefer to live elsewhere. Just because a person is a certain skin color does not mean they can’t call a certain place home, nor that they couldn’t want to.
Again, those that make blanket statements such as these we’ve seen here have the exact same thought processes that enable racists to believe they are right.
April 9, 2009 at 3:17 PM
And yet, your statement is a blanket statement too. Amazing how that works. 40% of people voted against interracial marriage, in 2000. That is sufficient and necessary for telling Alabama “fuck you, you’re racist”. At least you weren’t one of the racist comments to come out of the woodwork like #61 (3 above) (which actually came from Canda).
But yea — way to read into my statement, put words in my mouth, and then accuse me of making a blanket statement while doing so yourself. Nice job. You even through “uneducated” in there. Which is a mistake, since I hold a college degree. Nice try, though.

I am an Asian guy from Texas and I dated a white girl. We were both on a road trip to Atlanta and we had to stop in a small redneck hick town in Alabama. We went to Target to get some meds because I had a bad migraine headache. Once we stepped in the store, EVERYONE stopped and looked at us. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my whole life. One white guy came and push a shopping cart at me. I was about to throw down, but I was in a wrong situation. My girlfriend had to calm me down. This is a prime example of racism in Alabama. I know that there’s racism everywhere. BUT Alabama needs to get its head out of its ass and address of the problem. To me, racism is just stupid and ignorant.
April 19, 2009 at 11:49 PM
AHAHAHA u ppl r such lemming and douche bags! do u know white ppl r already the minority in the world population? do u know how many of these “minorities” (asian mexican mixed blacks whatever) in our homelands are waiting to see white race disappear? they want to use us to Improve their race and therefore killing OURS! do u know how many blacks-asians-hispanic-mixed are starting racial wars in the school against WHITE PPL???? IS THAT WHAT U WANT FOR THE USA AND CANADA AND EUROPE?? A COUNTRY WITHOUT IDENTITY?
So I’m here to argue u, all of u(white ppl with white partner) to have kids, as many as you can(more than 5) if you don’t, don’t expect any advisingthe liberal media is trying to push “Life with no kids, is good!” only into white countries, and that isn’t true at all, My mother has 10 kids(I’m one of them) and is kinda pretty how we help each other!
April 20, 2009 at 9:39 AM
^^ Too bad your cunt of a mother didn’t die during childbirth.
June 9, 2009 at 9:42 AM
I know this blog post is more than a year old, but for what it’s worth, I can’t take either side on this.
I am a Christian black woman from Mobile, Alabama. I currently live in Washington, DC, work for a major newspaper, and have traveled the world.
Alabama is really as racist as any other state, and the racism comes from people of all colors. A lot of its racial heritage is still very overt, partly because when you try to choose between heritage and morals, you often face a very difficult decision. Take the Confederate flag, for example.
Many Southerners’ ancestors fought and died in the Civil War, so to ask them to put the Confederate flag under a rug is asking them to choose between blood and country. And many people forget that blacks fought on both sides of the war, so the Confederate flag has meaning for them as well.
Nevertheless, the state’s lack of a public defender in a state where blacks make up the overwhelming majority of those on the wrong side of the law, backs the notion that race is still important. But all 49 states and D.C. pay their public defenders dismal wages for a ton of work. So the difference between not having a public defender and having a defender who can only afford to spend 5 mins on your case is not a difference at all.
Poverty is an affliction not limited to the South either. And, in the South, you can do a lot more with $20,000 a year than you can do anywhere else. So if evil can be measured by income, the South would commit the lesser.
So, if Alabama sucks, then so does New York, California, Illinois, Montana, Nevada, Texas…
Change is very slow, it’s costly, and it depends a lot on what people are exposed to. Unfortunately, the South, with it’s brutal combination of conservative brands of Christianity, government, and patriotism, is going to be the slowest region to progress. But that doesn’t make any region any better.
June 20, 2009 at 7:19 AM
(sorry about the grammar and punct. I was in a hurry)I am a black male born and raised in Cullman, Alabama. Cullman is known as the most racist county in Alabama. If you are at least 30 years old you know this and if you are younger you have no idea it is a racist place. That may not make since but racism has pretty much died out here. Sure there are a few back woods rednecks here but there are mostly just hard working people who get along. Clint I can tell you are set on hating Alabama and I can’t change your mind and wouldn’t want to. I guarantee if you visited Alabama you wouldn’t see or hear of racism anywhere. The facts about the voting is most Alabamians don’t vote. Look at your figures or the ballot count compared to Alabama’s population. By saying old white people who grew up believing and abiding by the law and living a good Christian life but wanting to keep whites with whites and blacks with blacks are racist is wrong. They are not racist it’s their old beliefs and way of life that helped build this country. Old black people are the same way. They also don’t want to mix colors. It’s a new age now and if all young people felt the way the older people feel the we would have a problem. But think of an old man or woman set in their ways. You’re not gonna change their mind. These old people can still vote but are not the everyday people you meet in Alabama. You have to be from the south to understand and accept this. I also think a lot of the comments were total BS and just complete lies to make the south sound worse. For one: Racism on the campus in Auburn, Alabama. Are you serious? I attended college there and me nor any of my friends experienced or heard of any kind of racism. The best way to find out id Alabama is take a visit there. It’ll be nothing special, just like every other state in the south. Everything is the same in Alabama as in Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi. It is really weird that you would focus on Alabama? It’s like saying red M&M’s taste worse than the yellow one’s. If you’re from the south the direct focus on Alabama as a racist state is just funny. You may have your numbers and that 40% but that really means nothing until you’ve actually seen the south.
June 20, 2009 at 12:38 PM
Actually, I find you ever-so-slightly racist for making excuses for racists. “It’s okay; they’re just old.” That’s really no excuse for racism. And it wasn’t okay when my grandfather disapproved of my sister’s interracial marriage simply because he’s old, either. We broke ties until his deathbed.
It’s funny that white people like me are less tolerant of racism than black people like you. I’d say you’re actually part of the problem without realizing it.
June 25, 2009 at 5:09 AM
So you are saying I’m a racist against my own color of people? That’s just funny! I’m saying older people don’t see it as being racist. And I’m not too worried about an 80 year old kkk member. I’m sorry that your grandfather disapproved of your sister’s interracial marriage. But you can see my point of old people set in their ways. You just can’t change some peoples beliefs. If we could the world would be such a great place no wars, etc. But did that make your grandfather a bad person? Racism is wrong now but not then, it’s like someone telling you in 30 years all cows have to live in houses and have all the same rights as you do. You thinks that’s a bad example but it’s not. Back them a black man was treated like a nothing, an animal, savage, stupid. I have gotten older and now understand this and it took me many years to do. And I may be part of the problem without realizing it. I’m glad I’m a part of such a small problem. You are young and white and have no idea what a real “problem” with racism is. We have laws now, We don’t have to fear for our lives, we can vote, drink from the white mans water fountain, be president, marry a white woman. Racist people may frown upon black people doing these things but that’s about all they can do. A black man can also frown upon these trailer trash rednecks. I live in Alabama an am black and I am so happy you wrote about my Alabama being racist and I haven’t experienced it here. Yes, some old people are racist and I’m just fine with that. Old people like all of us die. 50 years ago black people would have never dreamed that this small problem with racism would be their smallest problem. I’m proud to live in Alabama!
June 25, 2009 at 5:50 AM
I would hope that the evolution of societal opinions would happen faster than the rate at which old people die off. If we simply have to wait for the bad people to do, there’s not really any point in any activism, is there? We just educate our children about the new ways, and wait for old people to die to get rid of the old ways.
I think enlightenment should move a bit faster than the speed of death, personally.
And actually, we all thought that did make our granddad a bad person. Lifelong ties were broken. The last letter he wrote [found on his computer after his death] still mentioned the situation in racist terms. And his wife was a liberated jew from a nazi labor camp — he stormed normandy on d-day. You’d think he’d have learned something about racism in fighting it up close and personally with a gun!
So yes.. Old people are definitely stuck in their ways. But I feel it’s not because they are old, but because people are scared to confront old people about them being wrong.
I wish there was a maximum age for Congress :)
June 25, 2009 at 1:08 PM
This doesn’t relate to racism so much as activism is general. For the most part it is pointless. You may be able to influence a malleable mind, but once someone is set in their ways, the chances are slim, regardless of age. I’m about as likely to convince you to change your opinions as you are to change mine. Which is close to 0%.
PETA is not going to convince me to stop eating meat. The church is not going to convince me to believe in god. And sad as it may be, a true racist will always be a racist.
It would be nice if enlightenment moved quicker, but the reality is that it does not. And I don’t think it ever will. Death and birth are the circle of life, and as much as we try to, we are limited by that.
July 12, 2009 at 5:22 AM
Wow…I am truly amazed by how narrow minded a person can be. All of these hateful comments over where someone lives. Clint, you say bad things about those from Alabama because they are racist. Okay, lets say people from Alabama are racist, which is partially true because some people are. How are you any different? You hate certain people because they are from a certain geographical region. That doesn’t sound nearly as ignorant as being racist does it? People are people. You will find racist and narrow minded people anywhere you go if you are looking for them. You will also find very open minded people if you are looking.
I was born and raised in Cullman Alabama. It is a very beautiful area with some very wonderful people. My father was also born there. Served his country for 22 years fighting for the freedoms we have today, like freedom of speech. No matter how ridiculous or hateful your comments might be, that’s your right and someone from Alabama fought so you could keep that right. Many someones from Alabam have fought for that right. I moved to Houston Texas 9 years ago after marrying my husband, but my family is still there, my interacial family, in Cullman Alabama.
If you haven’t been there you should go, I really hope you do. It is really nice. You might actually like it and the people too.

Laura — Unless you can show me another state where 40% of people voted against interracial marriage, you don’t really have a point. You’re just whining because you live in a state more racist than most, and don’t like that being pointed out.
Is racism everywhere? Of course.
That doesn’t mean the level of racism is exactly the same in every state.
I posted numbers. You posted whining.

I rented a condo in Gulf Shores for the summer. When I tell people I’m going there for my summer vacation they all raise their eyebrows asking me “are you sure you want o go there”. I’ve never been there but I’ve heard is very pretty.
Reading this blog is giving me second thoughts abot having my kids exposed to these much racism.
July 22, 2009 at 2:39 PM
So you think there’s still racism in Alabama? Well the reason that Cullman is the “most racist county” is possibly because of the few blacks living here to begin with. Out of a total population of about 80,000 there are less than 900 blacks. It’s not because we don’t want them here, it’s because they had no reason to live here to begin with. Cullman didn’t become a county until 1877, years after slavery was made illegal, so the only slaves in what became the Cullman area were what few lived there in the years before. No other black folks moved in after it became a county for an unknown reason. Now it’s true that in the good ole days Cullman hated the black folks, but now, Cullman County’s representative in the Alabama House of Representives, is James Fields, a black man. So while the state as a whole may be racist, it’s apparently not in Cullman. Now Winston County next door to us may be another story….

Here’s a new article about how shitty Alabama is:
http://blog.al.com/live/2009/11/alabama_legislator_seeks_to_bl.html
Fuck Alabama: So ass-backward as to be against giving benefits to same-sex partners.
And of course it is the Republicans who lead crusades of hate like this, hiding behind “family values” — family values of hate. And of course the Republican governor and gubernatorial candidate both stand behind this hate legislature as well.
DuWayne Bridges, Bob Riley, and Tim James should all get in a fatal car accident. Preferably with each other. Let’s cross our fingers; the world isn’t going to be better until the haters and discriminators are gone.
Anyway, the hate is obvious, and the Alabama commenters who have visited this thread have proven my point better than I ever could.
But articles like this help show how even the elected leadership supports a platform of hate in Alabama.
November 27, 2009 at 2:15 AM
fuck eerbody who is talking shit about alabama i live in mobile alabama and we aint no races than any other state their is always gonna be somes races ppl but not the whole state is races and not every city is races and yall cant talk bout us if yall never been down here to see for yall self
November 27, 2009 at 11:33 AM
Your opinion is meaningless if you can’t even spell racist. But I’ll approve your comments anyway because they show how fucking stupid people from Alabama are.
40% of people voted against interracial marriage. That means that AT LEAST 40% are racist. The voting records don’t lie. But you do.
March 13, 2010 at 11:54 PM
40% isnt a majority by the way what about the 60% that voted for sounds to me like a majority isnt racist and you should make fun of someone that has a poor ability to spell…. sounds like to me you are just as bad as the people that hate on race your hating on location so in other words your no better than them
March 13, 2010 at 11:55 PM
left a couple of spelling errors in there for ya so you can pick on me 2 im quite clever and would love a battle of wits
March 14, 2010 at 3:25 PM
Well if you insist – it’s “I’m” not “Im”.
March 14, 2010 at 3:29 PM
You are right, 40% isn’t a majority. It is, however, a very high number. I mean, would you take a stroll down Afghanistan or Palestine without any protection? I’m sure less than 40% of the people there are actual terrorists. How dare you judge the other 60%?
Hopefully you can see what I’m getting at.
Cultures get blamed for their trends, even if their trends don’t represent the majority.
It’s not fair to compare cultural bias to racism, either, as cultural bias is based on fact. Racism is based more or less on superstition. It’s like comparing science to religion.
It is important to judge individuals as such, but to say you can’t blame a culture for the behavior of 40% of its voters is basically a form of political correctness.
November 27, 2009 at 2:23 AM
ROLL TIDE!!! ALABAMA IF WE ARE SO RACES WHY CAN WE COME TOGETHER ON THE FOOTBALL AND WOOP EERBODY ASS??????????
November 27, 2009 at 11:33 AM
Because sports are a fantasy world for assholes that has nothing to do with the real world?
November 29, 2009 at 12:29 PM
I was born and raised in Alabama. I’ve lived what people assume and despise a lot of my home state. I’m not here to argue statistics though, just wanting to give more or less a point of view. I was born and raised from a farming family in Alabama. While my parents are simple people they showed me a lot about character and “southern values”. I am grateful for that upbringing, but yes I am ashamed in telling people in the music/entertainment business I’m from there. You wouldn’t imagine how many bewildered looks I have gotten by telling other musicians I’m from the south. It’s sad that the ignorant always seem to be the loudest. You can even tell in this thread. “Any one that does not like us for who we are can go to hell and stay out of our state” This is why I don’t go back home for the holidays. But it isn’t fair to judge everyone from south as backward rednecks. I deal with this a lot in Boston. I speak well, write well (at least I think so), I can play the hell out of my instrument, and I’m open minded. But I still catch flack about my childhood. I’ve lied many a times in job meetings because I will get turned down for gigs if I tell people I’m from Alabama. It’s as if I can leave the south, but the south can never leave me…
My argument though, is for you Clint. You and I both agree that Alabama needs to open their small minds, but how do you propose we do this? (and no we can’t drop a nuke haha) It is one thing to address the problem but another to defeat it.
November 29, 2009 at 5:01 PM
That’s a good question.
My usual answer for correcting most assholey beliefs is the utter and complete destruction of all religion.
But in this case, I don’t think the racism was necessarily caused by religion.
Maybe a lack of education.
Perhaps if we built more schools and less bombs, we’d have a start.
But that’s a tough issue :)
January 8, 2010 at 3:34 AM
I’m from Alabama, I’m not racist, and I’m not stupid. Being against interracial marriage doesn’t necessarily mean you’re racist. A lot of the old people here are “old fashioned.” If their daughter or son were to marry an African American, they wouldn’t round up the lynch mod and burn a cross in their yard. They might not approve, but they’re not going to hang anyone over it. But there are some racist bastards out there, but racism is everywhere. Not just in Alabama. I find it funny how you all talk about people which you have never even met. What wonderful lives you all must lead.
January 8, 2010 at 10:04 AM
1) You are *absolutely* racist. If you wouldn’t approve of your daughter marrying someone — it doesn’t matter that you wouldn’t lynch them. The very basis of skin color being used to disapprove *IS* racism.
2) You are absolutely stupid to not realize you are a racist, using such idiotic argument.
3) You find it funny how we all talk about people we never even met, but you are doing THE EXACT SAME THING. You are disapproving of a marriage with someone you never met, simply because of their skin color.
You, sir, are a stupid Alabaman racist hypocrite. Thanks for providing more evidence to world at large about how fucking backwater Alabamans are.
May you rot in your fictitious hell.
April 9, 2010 at 4:19 PM
Yep, he is a racist! Because of people like him, a white woman from Alabama married to a Chinese American with an MBA from Wharton and an executive in a US corporation, has to live and raise her family in Hawaii or Singapore!
March 13, 2010 at 11:50 PM
i have african american friends…. i am a caucasian male 23 yoa…. im not racist at all but lemme tell ya what some of the most racist folks i have ever met are african american…… i went to a high school basketball game a few years back and when i entered the school and young black male about 15 or 16 walked up to me and triend to spit in my face called me a dirty honky and ran off….. i couldnt help but laugh becasue i was there to support his school…. it was a predominitly black school against a predominitly white school and i guess he assumed that i was there supporting the other school….. i seen him around halftime sitting about 6 rows in front of me and i just gave him a little smile and he got up and left guess he felt a little salty…. the morale of this story is not all whites are racist but not all blacks arent, everyone needs to grow up and grow a pair.. personally i dont give a damn who you marry black white brown green blue yellow or red…. you should all quit trying to press your beliefs on someone else if that is what they want that is what they want fuck em let em be some dicks karma is a bitch
April 18, 2010 at 1:53 AM
Clint…seriously dude, Have you even been to Alabama? There is so much hatred and negitivity in your ridiculous comments that it is difficult to take you serious at all. Who would believe a hypocrite like you? It’s quite funny actually. To get so worked up over things you dont know. I understand it must be frustrating when you are unaware of what really goes on there and because of things a few people have said to you. Your basically stereotyping, stereotyping….which is ironic…and sad. Stereotyping a stereotype is still stereotyping….I believe someone who holds a “college degree” should know that? Sounds to me like you need to grow up, get over yourself, and remove whatever it is that is stuck up your ass, because the only one suffering from your shitty comments is yourself. Why are you wasting your time hating on a whole state and people that you do not know, don’t you have more important things to do with your time? Anything that’s actually productive?
April 18, 2010 at 12:14 PM
Did you vote against interracial marriage or not?
If so, you’re a racist bigot.
If not, you’re defending a state full of racist bigots.
Either way, I wouldn’t step foot in your podunk backwater hateful state.
June 19, 2010 at 10:54 AM
Listen.. first off, I’m an African american college student in Alabama, been here all my life. I currently live in Montgomery but I grew up in Evergreen, AL so before anyone says something, yes.. I DO know a little something about racism. And all this bullshit I’ve seen where people are saying that “Youve never been here! You don’t know what it’s like!” confirms to me that this place is still what ice always thought it was. I’m in no way racist toward anyone. People love to ask me why I actually date outside my race and it makes me laugh. Not all, white people are racists here, but damnit out of 100%, I would give it about 70% of their population to be that way. I am what you call a token black guy. I’m usually the only black guy at a party or get together. I don’t hang out with many black people because they do things I am not into (and because mostly all the black dudes here are gay) but I digress.. back to what I was saying. The people who are shouting “you’ve never been here!” are more than likely full of shit. Because trust me, if they do actually come here, their minds won’t be changed. Racism is alive and well in PLENTY of white people here, AND blacks. The black people are just bold enough to actually say something. Still wrong, but it’s stating facts. People get killed down here because people think they aren’t racist, then when they show up to a party or something, they are surprised when they aren’t allowed to enter. Sure, Bama loves football. We don’t have a professional team and UA and Auburn football RUN shit down here because of that. I myself am a Texas fan, but that’s a different story. Point is, Alabama of course loves Mark Ingram, he’s the first Heisman winner ever for UA and just happens to be black, just like Bo Jackson is the greatest athlete to ever live from the South and just happened to be black. Racists people still love them though. Why? Because they can actually shut out the fact that he’s black to praise him because he actually makes Alabama look good to an extent. That’s what racism has evolved to, which wow’s me to be honest. I know plenty of white people here that love hanging out with me because I get along with everyone, no bullshit about color. But as soon as they see me with a white girl, they act a little funny. And you can tell in their face what they’re thinking, especially when she’s gorgeous.. the point I’m trying to make with all this is that not all white people in Alabama are racists. But if you put 15 white males and females in a room together, a good 7 of them have at least one racist thought in their mind. Nowadays racism isn’t vocal because of laws, but if you could read an Alabama mind, you’d see why people think so lowly of Bama, man. Racism is cowardly for white people, it’s a thought and not an action anymore. Blacks are just bold, nit that it’s right or anything but just saying.. If you’re going to stand for something, STAND for it.
But to shed some light on the change here, like I stated earlier, I grew up in Evergreen, AL. A VERY racially divided town. Now, my uncle Larry Fluker is mayor, first black mayor of the town, elected in 2007 I think. Of course not an overwhelming win, but damnit, he still won. So Alabama has hope.. but you can’t change how people are.
March 1, 2011 at 10:07 PM
I started in the army(2yrs) and the Navy to become a seal (6yrs) i look at it this way. I don’t like the fact that some choose to burn the flag to make a point. However in this country many fought and gave there lives for them to have the right to burn our flag. And if a man chooses to dis like another for whatever reason that is his right. As long as he didn’t step on the other mans liberty. In saying that most blacks i like. But the niggers that think i owe them something can kiss my ass.
March 2, 2011 at 8:00 AM
Ahh, another racist that pretends to not be racist. Glad my tax dollars have paid for you to be a dipshit. (That’s sarcasm.)
April 8, 2011 at 9:13 PM
Using google to help me with extra credit in my college history class brung me to find this website; I think it’s funny that this has been going since May of 2006.
I knew there were still ignorant people in the world -BLACKS, WHITES and every color in between that sat against interratial relationships but I never would have thought eleven years in the 21 century that we would be voting against loving another PERSON regardless of their race.
Before I continue with my post I would like to share that I am a black nineteen year old female who currently resides in Huntsville, Al. I’ve been attracted to white boys from a very young age and they all seemed to like me back. It wasn’t until I was in eight grade that I had my own personal experience with racism.
*My best friend’s cousin was over for the weekend and I must admit he was quite the looker :) he told me that he liked me and would like to be my boyfriend. I caught the look my best friend gave him before say aloud that he would have to keep it from his dad. Never thinking anyone could HATE me based on the color of my skin I asked why? -Was he not allowed to date LoL. Silly young girl I was to ask him that. He informed me that his dad didn’t like black people.*
I’ve had two other experience -one being in Mississippi at an ihop (the state that 46% of people RECENTLY voted against getting rid of the ban of interracial dating).
Since then I’ve learned and accepted the fact that some peeople are unfortunatly ignorant to the thought of interracial dating.
Skimming through the post from other Alabamians I feel lucky to have never ran into these people.
Somone said that “people should stay with their own kind…”
-What is our own kind? You’re speaking as if we’re animals. This is not about a wolf mating with a horse. Are we not all human? The indian, white, black, mexican, ect ARE ALL MY KIND!
Another person said “we want to protect our race…”
-From what exactly? Please inlighten me on what you’re talking about specifically. Because everyone in the same race isn’t the same it would be kind of hard to say…
I have WHITE friends who has never dated outside their race who is totally willing and/or supports dating outside of their race.
I to have black friends who have never dated outside of their race and aren’t willing to.
Personally, I could care less if you have or if you plan to but why vote against the person who want to or are open to the idea? Whether you know it or not if you agree or vote against interracial marriage, you are petitioning your government to take away the rights of certain groups of people. It should be a personal choice, the law should not have to be involved. If you don’t want to be in a relationship with someone outside of your race then DON’T but don’t stop others from loving and marrying who they want.
P.s Clint is it ? =) thanks ! Maybe we should get married -LoL
April 9, 2011 at 1:45 PM
RE:get married – lol, wasn’t expecting that :)
Thanks for your good points!
April 19, 2011 at 5:55 PM
Unlike many of you, i grew up during the 60′s and 70′s in the south when i still had to drink from a separate water fountain and go to the all-black park. I was called every name in the book as I was the first and only black to attend my school for my first two years there. But remarkably, my parents gave me a great sense of who I am and I learned that by being with other cultures/races, that people are pretty much the same EVERYWHERE. We all sit on the same damned pot. I respect and love all culture/diversity in all it’s forms. And though I live in a super diverse culture of inner Houston, I’m still smart enough to know that covert prejudice still lives in some states. I visited Alabama last year in high hopes that the “deep south” had progressed. However, it’s that deeply ingrained familial beliefs of parents passed to their kids is alive and well. I was “seeing” a guy who happen to be causn. and just the stares where deafening! He even told me the way all his relatives and neighbors talked about other races including his parents — so I had the inside scoop on the real feelings behind a few fake smiles. They were all very much against interracial dating/marriage. When we were in public, it was as if I was in a Twighlight Zone series (almost the same when he and I were in Nashville Tn.) But what’s different between the racism of my yester-year and what I felt last year is HUGE. In the 60′s there was fear…Now there is only sorrow, but not for myself, but for those poor souls who are like sad characters caught in a weird 60′s tv show like Twighlight Zone. I know everyone is not like that…but that culture is very set in stone for generations to come. And that state nature-wise is so majestic and beautiful with mountains and landscapes. But it’s people’s reputation preceeds all that beauty. It’s really sad. What’s even more sad is that the person I was seeing succumbed to that pressure, because of his relatives there. I guess even he couldn’t take it.
April 19, 2011 at 5:59 PM
ps—im sorry that happened to you Paris…maybe you will have better luck than me. and clint — ur cool!
September 1, 2011 at 8:38 PM

“fucking idiot leftist, you are racist and above all stupid. people can do whatever they want to do with their life. if i don’t want to have a black girlfriend it’s my problem not yours, you fucking piece of shit blogger”
@Tom: it IS my problem when I do, and you vote to make it illegal, you inbred stupid piece of shit. And no, calling me racist doesn’t make me racist. You’re the racist. And you’re also a piece of shit.
October 22, 2011 at 3:29 PM
People from Alabama are genetically inferior, so their opinions don’t really count.
November 21, 2011 at 1:27 PM
i don’t give a damn about you people from any racist country, your days are over, i’m chinese…..
November 21, 2011 at 3:36 PM

December 28, 2011 at 8:22 PM
Clint is a smart ass that thinks he knows everything apparently,he talks a lot of shit from his keyboard. I live in and love alabama and yes I’m country as corn bread.I would b willing to pay for his plane ticket to come here and woop his mf ass,but being the bitch he is it will never happen.oh and yea I don like niggers and against homosexuality and interratial marrage.I most of us don’t play no talking shit or acting stupid like were in a gang…u just get knocked the fuck out.so come on down to the red neck capital of the world and talk shit bitch.I don run from no 1 especially a punk ass yank nigger lover
December 28, 2011 at 8:26 PM
I’m a smart ass for reporting your voting statistics? You came to a page where I said Alabamans were racist, then talked about niggers. So you proved my point — thus agreeing with me — then called me a smartass for it.
You gotta love the inbred backwoods lack logic and love of hate.
I’m surprised you apes finally learned how to use a keyboard. You still need some spelling lessons though. You don’t even know how to spell interracial. I guess when the national guard has to visit your schools to make you accept children into them, it’s no wonder you come out of the Alabaman redneck school system with the spelling skills of a first grader. I could write better than you when I was 7.
February 16, 2012 at 6:51 PM
your all sick!!
February 16, 2012 at 7:06 PM
You mean “You’re”. (His URL was “GetBackToGodAmerica”, so of course he’s too uneducated to use contractions.)
February 16, 2012 at 7:42 PM
Fuck faggys
February 16, 2012 at 7:46 PM
Your comment doesn’t really make sense. This is about interracial marriage, not homosexuality. I guess the uneducated ignoroids of the world can’t tell the difference.
May 9, 2012 at 12:01 PM
I came by this site while doing research…I truly can’t believe some of this trash talking that has been posted! This site is 100% about hatred, racism, inbred rednecks, and that Alabamians are uneducated/stupid. I am from a small town in Alabama. I am PROUD to be from ALABAMA!! It doesn’t matter what state you are from to be a racist or have hatred in your heart! I have traveled a lot and I was shocked that there was more “racist” or as I like to refer to them as RUDE people in the Midwest, New Jersey, and New York. I was so ready to get back home to Alabama. At least in Alabama/South we have manners! We will wave at a passing car, hold a door open for the next person that is coming through it, we will help the elderly in every way we can…I could keep going on and on…
Everyone has a opinion and here is mine:
When anyone posts anything positive about Alabama or the South, CLINT has to turn nasty and call people names…Clint…you call it like you see it but have you really seen Alabama? Have you ever been to Alabama? Alabama is full of people that are warm hearted and still have manners. Alabama is not anywhere near how it used to be before/during/right after the Civil Rights Movement. Racism is wrong! Does it still exist throughout America? Yes. Does racism still exist in Alabama? Yes Does racism ONLY exist in Alabama? No! Are only “white” people racist? NO!!! What I would like for you to understand is that the majority of Alabamians are not apart of the KKK or even racist! It still does exist in Alabama but at the same time, it still exist in all states. Racism is taught at a young and impressionable age and when those children grow up what do they do? They teach their kids the same things they were taught. If we want to change racism in this country then sites like this that put down, for example, Alabama because as it has been stated on this site, that ALL Alabamians are racists which is NOT true. If people or any media outlet keeps on and on about how “the white man” is still a racist, hates interatial marriages, and how gay marriage is wrong then how is America ever going to “change”? It’s not!
Liberal or Conservative, gay or straight, black or white,…what does it matter? We are all people! We all have our own likes and dislikes. People take certain “incidents” and blow it way out of proportion and the media eats it up and keeps playing it over and over; the media want to focus on the bad because it sells. Who buys it? Everyone. But the smart ones can look past what is actually being said and knows what the true meaning is behind the story.
Like I said, I am from a small town in Alabama and I am not ashamed to tell anyone where I am from. I also tell them that they shouldn’t believe everything you hear about the south. Just like that “poll” you were talking about…was it unbiased? Who knows but one thing we all know is that if we want change to come to America then it starts with us. Just because someone is from the north, south, east, or west doesn’t make them who they are…it’s just where they are from. Just because I am from the south DOES NOT make me a racist!!! Look at all the garbage that has been said and ask yourself this question.”Am I any better than the people I am putting down for being racist?” YOUR NOT!
May 9, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Am I any better than the racists? I most certainly am. I do not vote to suppress peoples’ rights. Alabamans do.
All I am doing is sharing my opinion on my own blog. In 2000, 40% of Alabamans voted to make interracial marriage illegal. Your point that “not all Alabamans are racist” is true: Only 40% of them are.
And yes, you should be ashamed to live anyplace with a 40% racism level.
And no, I am not interested in stepping foot anywhere where 40% of people are racist. Not even as a white guy.
I love the part where you try to equate “Rude” and “Racist” as the same thing. Shows the typical backwater-Alabama way of thinking. Pretend that rude and racist are the same things so that you can say there are “more” up north.
Bringing up the point of “are only white people racist? no” just really shows how many decades old your thinking is. You think that is actually a point worth bringing up. You seem to think that I think only white people can be racist. The irony is you are the only one stupid enough to think there are people who only think white people can be racist. The response of “black people can be racist too” is one of the first retorts to usually come from someone defending white racism. It’s kind of a “they did it too, so i get to do it”, second-grade rationalization.
What does it matter? When you vote to suppress someone else’s rights, it matters. This is the state that had to have the NATIONAL FUCKING GUARD come in, because white people wouldn’t allow black people in their schools. Were there any black schools where they had to use the national guard to allow white people in? No. So your point about black people being racist too totally shrivels away in the context of your backwater state’s history, WHICH YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF.
If the national guard has to come into your state to assert CHILDREN’S rights, you SHOULD be ashamed of the values. What difference does it make? That is the difference.
And it wasn’t over in the 1960s. No, 40 years later, you’re still trying to keep black people from marrying white people. You are a pathetic canker sore on our flag of freedom.
Yes, you are collectively an inferior state, and should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves by any reasonable measure.
May 9, 2012 at 12:15 PM
Fuck faggys ill blow a faggy head off
May 11, 2012 at 7:47 AM
You are very hung up on the 40% poll that was done years ago…do you believe EVERYTHING you read? You said that you are white and that you would never step into a state that has racism…guess what…you do live in a state where there IS racism because it is EVERYWHERE!! It is a sad reality that it does exist but instead of trashing Alabama why don’t you not put your negativity out in the world because there already is enough out there! Be a positive person. I am ashamed of the history of Alabama for being such a racist state but what I am proud of is that Alabama has come a long way. There is still more work to be done to abolish racism but that won’t happen unless people wake up and see that parents are teaching racism to their children and then their children, so on and so on.
When you referred to me stating that “The response of “black people can be racist too” is one of the first retorts to usually come from someone defending white racism. It’s kind of a “they did it too, so i get to do it”, second-grade rationalization.” I don’t think you understood me correctly. When I said that white people are not the only racists in society you took it straight to black/white racism. People/media make it out to always be black/white when that isn’t the truth at all, The point I was making is that all people no matter their skin color or their nationality can be racists too. It not just white people.
I WILL NEVER BE ASHAMED THAT I AM FROM ALABAMA!! I AM ASHAMED OF ALABAMA’S HISTORY OF RACISM!! When I said “I have traveled a lot and I was shocked that there was more “racist” or as I like to refer to them as RUDE people in the Midwest, New Jersey, and New York” The people that I am referring to, in my experience with racism, they were rude and racist towards me because I am from the south and because I am from Alabama, Just because I grew up in Alabama does not make me a racist. RACIST PEOPLE ARE RUDE!!! It does go hand in hand.
When you said “And no, I am not interested in stepping foot anywhere where 40% of people are racist. Not even as a white guy.” shows that your a bigot and that you are prejudice…maybe racist too…racist against a state that you have never “stepped foot in” so you do not know how it truly is in Alabama. Racism does still exist in Alabama but like I said before, racism is in EVERY STATE IN THE U.S, Why single out Alabama? Are you singling Alabama out because of the Civil Rights, from some poll that was taken in 2000, or the media? Whatever the case may be,,,don’t judge Alabama until you come here and see it for yourself,
There are a lot of posts on here that I am ashamed of. The posts from Alabamians are awful and racist. That does prove your point that it still does exist in Alabama. It’s sad that it still does!!! Racism will still continue because people are taught racism and racists instill this in their children. It will keep going on generation after generation. It saddens me to know that people in America are still racists. I pray that it will change but change won’t come unless we stop doing what we are doing to stop it because it isn’t working.
I find it disgusting that you have to reply with negativity and name calling. Also, I never said that only black people are racists. I AM NOT defending racism in any way. The only point I am making is that racism is wrong!
“Bringing up the point of “are only white people racist? no” just really shows how many decades old your thinking is.” I actually laughed out loud…My thinking isn’t decades old but when you turn on the news or read the newspaper you only hear about white people committing racists crimes. My point is that it’s isn’t just white people committing racist crimes! Every race does, but you are focused on us “white folks from Alabama with no education and that we are all racists”. Your wrong and simple minded. Don’t judge us unless you can actually come here and see it for yourself!!! I have tried hard not to cuss but when you said “You are a pathetic canker sore on our flag of freedom.
“Yes, you are collectively an inferior state, and should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves by any reasonable measure.Yes, you are collectively an inferior state, and should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves by any reasonable measure.”… Fuck you!!!!

1) “Do I believe everything you read?”
So wait — are you trying to say I’m gullible, and have believed in a vote that never happened? Because either the vote happened, or it did not happen. Once we have agreed on whether it has happened or not, the point of “Do I believe everything I read” is totally irrelevant. The vote happened:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_rights_referendum
If you check the citations, it includes citations from New York Times, CNN, Salon:
http://www.nytimes.com/1999/06/03/us/national-news-briefs-interracial-marriage-ban-up-for-vote-in-alabama.html
Oh look! I learned something new! Alabama is the only state in the country left with an interracial marriage ban. I did not know that before. Thank you for cluing me in on this. Alabama looks even worse than it did before now.
Every other state repealed it.
So yes – it is now looking like Alabama is the most racist state in the nation.
2) “The point I was making is that all people no matter their skin color or their nationality can be racists too. It not just white people.”
I don’t know why you typed that entire paragraph. I understood you perfectly the first time. The fact that you didn’t understand me shows your own inability to comprehend.
Nobody here said that only black-white racism existed. You are attacking a strawman, refuting a point that was never made. The only people who bring up the point that “other racism exists than black white” are people trying to equivocate minorities to be as evil as the white man has been.
Problem is, minorities lack the voting power to boss anyone around. North Carolina’s gay marriage vote was a great example of this, and it’s no coincidence that people flocked to this blogpost (after months of silence) the day the North Carolina vote came.
You guys are upset that the south looked bad, and you found my post and got defensive.
But the matter stands: In 2000, Alabamans voted, and by not repealing an interracial ban that EVERY OTHER STATE HAS REPEALED, they now have the most racist voting record on marriage in the country.
Your point that other states and people are racist too is IRRELEVANT TO MY POINT, because Alabama is still
1) The only state so racist to have interracial marriage being banned
2) The only state so racist that the national guard had to be brought in to integrate schools
Not much has changed in 50 yrs there.
The only thing you should be more ashamed of than the voters you live with, is the fact that you’ve come here and spent several paragraphs trying to attack me for telling the truth.
Maybe you should be mad at your racist fellow Alabamans who vote to use the government to enforce racism, instead of me?
“There are a lot of posts on here that I am ashamed of. The posts from Alabamians are awful and racist. That does prove your point that it still does exist in Alabama. It’s sad that it still does!!!”
Uh, yeah. The whole point of this was to prove my point. And every person who says “racism is bad, but no, alabama isn’t racist” just looks like an apologist for racism. By saying “fuck you” to the person pointing out how racist your state is, you’ve gone out of your way to defend the state with the most racist voters in the union.
Congratulations.
“when you turn on the news or read the newspaper you only hear about white people committing racists crimes. ”
Uh, no. That is the opinion of racists, held together by confirmation bias. If you read actual news you would know that was the case. I guess you didn’t read about the black kids who set the white kid on fire for being white, huh? Yeah, you’re uninformed.
“” My point is that it’s isn’t just white people committing racist crimes! Every race does, but you are focused on us “white folks from Alabama with no education and that we are all racists”. Your wrong and simple minded.”"
No, I never said you were all racists. In my original post, I said 40%. If you read “40%” and translate that to “all”, then you are too fucked in the head to be allowed to continue to post your bullshit here. Learn to fucking read, learn to fucking call reality how you see it, and grow the fuck up and stop defending racists.
You are a vile person, a racist who pretends not to be, and gets defensive when your own voting record is pointed out. You equate “40%” to mean the same thing as “all”. You are an example of your backwater redneck education system.
You are just another commentor defending racists, the same as all the previous comments getting mad that i DARED TO POINT OUT THE TRUTH ABOUT 40% OF ALABAMANS.
In terms of people walking to the poll and actually voting (the only thing that really matters), YOU PEOPLE HAVE THE WORST RECORD ON RACISM IN THE COUNTRY. So fuck you. You can have your state. We should have left the South secede. Problem is, they’d still have slaves today if they had. And people like you would still be defending your fellow racists.
Future comments from you will be marked as spam. You have nothing to say that hasn’t been said here already. Just another redundant person defending a group of people that vote at the most racist level in the country.

Human beings are an inferior species. Shoulda never gave them the right to vote or breed. Stupid humans.

i know this is pretty old, but i think it’s just sad how it took Alabama so long to approve interracial marriage. I’m a 19 year old black and brazilian and I have to say I’m pretty proud of being a product of interracial marriage, and the only guys that I’ve ever really dated were white. And also for the people who are only saying that the old people are racist, that is DEFINITELY not true. I have been to Alabama once with my boyfriend, who happens to be white, and just the looks and comments we received from our peers were just disgusting. I was just ashamed that such hatred still existed in the 21st century. But i tell you one thing, I will never go back to Alabama. Those racist people can have that sorry state. And for the people who said racism is everywhere, this is true, but it is not as prominent in states like Alabama, You may encounter racism up north maybe 10% of the time but in Alabama it’s a whole different world. What gets me is, racist whites say they hate blacks and browns one minute, then the next minute they’re trying to be like African-Americans or Latinos and Hispanics. They tan, to get darker skin(which they say they hate), they get botox to get fuller lips, and now they’re trying to get plumper asses like us. And they say other races are stupid, but according to college graduating rates, more Indians and Asians are graduating more than the white students, and more jobs are hiring them. Sooner or later Alabama is going to wake up and realize that being a racist white isn’t going to get them anywhere in today’s society.

Thank you for your comments. It’s always funny how white people from the south comment here that “Everywhere’s racist”, but anyone from a minority confirms the sentiment of my original post here. Of course there are places more racist than others, and the first place I’d look is the place where they had to call in teh National fucking Guard to protect the rights of children to go to an equal school as other children.

First off clint… Where do u live??? I live in washington state. Right next to the border of idaho… Idaho is the more racist than any state… You might wanna travel around all 48 states and tell me what u think… You make an opinion and try to put people down from the south… Why do u think everyone from the south always says they would go back? Its because the north sucks… I have seen the lower 48 states and what u think only happens in the south happens everywhere… Idaho has kkk and aryan brotherhood members all over… They use to have a parade up until 5 years ago… Does that happen in the south? Nope it doesn’t… So before u start trying to make yourself sound like your a smart yankee and use big words… Think before your yankee ass opens your mouth!
July 12, 2012 at 8:33 PM
you are a moron – took me literally 3 seconds to find a kkk parade rally in alabama.

I quoted a voting record. You got angry. Big fucking baby.

And stories like this ALWAYS come out of the south.
Tell me more about how the north is just as racist…

I know this is an old thread, but being a proud Alabamian from Cullman County, I have to set one thing straight concerning your 40 percent comments. In actuality, it was 40 percent of the approximately 70 percent of registered voters who voted against it. Considering the number of people too young to vote, and the number of people who didn’t vote, it is childish and utterly ridiculous to claim that 40 percent of Alabama’s residents are racists. I am not an uneducated fool just for living in and loving my state either. Alabama is a wonderful state.
March 22, 2013 at 10:02 PM
It’s ridiculous to think the distribution of opinions among people who don’t vote is radically different from the distribution of opinions among people who do vote. You’ve made a claim that has no evidence… Though if you have any evidence that the people who don’t vote are magically better people, please by all means present it.
March 22, 2013 at 10:23 PM
I do not have evidence to prove that the remaining percentage of citizens aren’t racist. Nor do you have evidence to prove that they are. The fact of the matter is, that many of the old southern racists who were actually around during the civil rights era of the fifties and sixties have died in the thirteen years since that vote. And as with most of the nation, even if at a slower rate, the attitude toward race relations is improving in Alabama. I am of the belief that if someone works hard, respects others, and abides by the law, they’re ok by me. And anyone who believes the Bible should know that interracial marriage isn’t considered morally wrong. Moses had a black wife. My point is, that most younger people, even in Alabama, do not see this as even being an issue anymore. And by the way, like most southerners, I am very conservative politically. But being conservative doesn’t make me racist. It just means that I value individual liberty, something all races should enjoy.
March 23, 2013 at 1:16 PM
It’s childish and ridiculous to claim that voters do not represent the people, and that those who don’t vote somehow do not match those that do. Adults run a place… Having some children that aren’t evil doesn’t make your adults (who run things) less evil.
You really want to prove something? Get the vote to happen again with different results. Your state is an embarrassment.
March 23, 2013 at 3:21 PM
My state is not an embarrassment. What’s embarrassing is the few people who stereotype and assume that everyone in a state is racist just because some are. And racism, by the way, is a two way street. Blacks are as equally capable of racial intolerance as whites and many are. Racial tension is only being kept alive by people who constantly stir up racial disputes. People such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who try to turn anything and everything into a civil rights issue, are a big part of the problem. They line their wallets while blacks continue to feel violated, regardless of whether they are or not. I’ve lived here my whole life. I have worked with people of every color, race, and creed. Never, not even once, have I witnessed racist behavior. Your preconceived notions of widespread racial intolerance, are completely incorrect. To assume that this entire state hates an entire population of a race, is really very ignorant of you. I know I cannot convince you otherwise, nor do I care. I just wanted to address this misguided assault on my home, with a response neither mean nor condescending. I do not seek to insult or misrepresent anyone. I am a better human being than that. So I nothing more to say on this matter.

I’m from Indiana, white, some college education. I moved to Alabama four years ago, Big mistake – people here are rude (hate Yankees), uneducated, (I have been to several yard sales and they have to use a calculator to add. .25 + .25 – really!!!!!) They don’t hold to door open when they see you coming, and won’t say thank you when you do…..Dump dogs off anywhere – it’s just a dog mentality. Half dont want to work and receive checks – I could go on – however, I have said enough. I will be moving from here ASAP – I can’t see spending anymore of my life in this hole.

@James..it is not an issue with young white people? Is that why they still dont admit non-whites (I mean non-whites, not just blacks) into white sororities at the University of Alabama? Quite a change indeed!
