Well, I just purchased some dental insurance due to the whole issue with my gums getting infected again (see comment feed, I wrote about some of this, but only as a comment off of my original surgery post).
It was $99.99 but $89.97 with a 10% discount that they gave me, probably because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to buy it.
BEWARE!! THIS SERVICE AUTOMATICALLY REBILLS YOU EVER YEAR!! YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO MARK YOUR CALENDAR TO CANCEL IT, OR YOU’LL BE STUCK WITH IT FOREVER!!
What do I get for $89.97? 15 months coverage with reduced expenditures for dental stuff. Crowns at $480, root canals at $350-$440. Stuff like that. Not cheap, but the $90 should help me save several hundreds dollars if I have to have anything done with my gum. It may not technically be “insurance” (it’s a “reduced payment plan”), but it’s insurance for me.
If anyone wants to signup, just go to http://www.dentalplans.com and signup for the Patriot Plan. My rewards code is 32L04C36.
Use my rewards code and I’ll get extended coverage for free!
So if you need insurance… This would be good. Please use my code.
Ahh, spamming via my own blog.

Clint,
I’ve been looking into discount dental plans for myself. How is the Patriot Plan working out for you? Any problem with coverage for the pre-existing gum problem?
Feel free to write back privately.

I haven’t actually used it yet, sorry.

Well, Clint, if your website had offered information on how well the insurance covered and if you had had any problems yet, I would be more inclined to enter your rewardes code.

Hi Julia,
I’ve actually only gone to a dentist once since getting the service.
The rate they charged was actually a bit higher than it was supposed to be – Patriot Plan doesn’t cover some “additional charges” they can put on. So I ended up paying $115 or so for a 3-surface filling — IF I RECALL CORRECTLY.
The real problem is lack of availability of dentists…. Living in northern virginia (Fairfax County, Arlington County, City Of Alexandria), I only had about 3-6 dentists I could choose from.
Looking the dentists up on DrOogle.com, the dentist review site, I found that my first choices were “very expensive” or “poor performance” dentists. I only found one that I would be willing to visit. Otherwise I would have had to go all the way into Washington D.C. to see a dentist, and deal with $10+ parking and hellish rush hour traffic.
The dentist I went to seemed nice enough. But that really has nothing to do with the Patriot Plan coverage. I would still try to get a cost assessment ahead of time, even though dentists hate to do this.

I’ll let that BLATENT comment-spam through, since it does seem to be a legitimate service, much like the one I’m using. But I would prefer people use the one I posted, WITH MY REWARDS CODE. :)

Hi,
I found your site on a google search about dental plan reward points. I used your code when signing up. Also, for other folks signing up check out retailmenot.com for codes. We used wow20 for 20% off.

Clint,
It looks like a bunch of people have used your advice, I hope it is helping you out.
I just wanted to say that I know of a company too, sterlingdentalplan.com. They have plans that are as good as the other site and cheaper (with way more local dentists). If anyone is in the “referral mood” they’ll give you $20 for anyone that signs up for an annual plan ($78). It’s really easy, they can give you a referal code, or just give them the name of the person who signed up!
Sorry for the advo, but people seemed to be following your advice, and this plan is even less expensive with better customer support. lets help everyone get to the denitst!

Does that discount dental work like regular dental insurance? Do you have to find a dentist that will accept it, or is more dental savings account that you can use anywhere?

PerfectSmile – you have to find a dentist in the network. the network is slower than other ones…

I’ve considered Patriot for a while. If I join, I’ll use your code. Doesn’t cost me anything. :)

Hi Clint and everyone else.
I found a 25% off coupon SCHOOL07. I was wondering if anyone knew about these plans in comparison to NORTHEAST Dental Plan? I think they are about the same. If you go to any of their DIRECT websites, it is MUCH cheaper! For example, on DentalPlans.Com NE Dental Plan is $109.95. If you go to their website, DentalSave.Com, it’s only $85.00! Any thought would be appreciated.

Hi all,
Lisa, thanks for the coupon. I don’t know about it being cheaper on the direct site. I do suggest you look for things such as ‘activation fee’ or ‘processing fee’ etc that get added on during signup usually right before you submit your credit card info

By the way — this shit auto-recurs. I wish I’d realized that.

There is now a California state licensed dental discount plan which is currently available in California and Arizona with over 14,000 dentist and specialist locations. http://www.newdentalchoice.com

It’s been over a year since you posted on Patriot. How has it worked over the past year? We have some serious stuff to get done and want to make sure we won’t get ripped off but instead, helped by this plan

Thankful: I only used a dentist under the plan once. They charged me ever-so-slightly above the maximum the plan should charge me. And I don’t think I got my referral from the people who used the code above, either.
It’s not insurance. It’s a reduced payment plan. It’s amazing how cheaply dentists are willing to do stuff if you don’t have insurance … Proof of how messed up our system is.

Hey, I don’t know if you’re even still using this plan, but I was already going to sign up for it, and somehow came across this site, so I will go ahead and stick your code in. Hope it helps.

i found a coupon for 35% off just wanted to share that with others who may pass through. it works as of jan 3rd 2009. the coupon is HOLIDAYS43.
also clint what made you pick the patriot plan over the uni-care 200. i mean it costs exactly the same but uni-care is cheaper in almost everything.. cleaning.. tooth extraction….molars. did i miss something?
i am trying to make a decision here that is why i ask.

CHAR: Never heard of it…

You have to admit when looking at the discounts the original prices are from the 1980′s. A root canal for under 1200 does not exist. But they have it for under 700. I may go with Cigna or Uni-care. PP just has 1 dentist in my area.
Your site helped a lot I wasn’t sure where to start. Researching prices and plans was easier with all the suggestions.

I just bought Cigna here is my code if anyone wants to use it 62r60l94. I really want to go with PP. Cigna has lots of dentists in my area. I just got a quote for 340 for a root canal for the plan! That’s a huge savings.

I also used your code hope it helps, and i hope this dental plan is worth it thanks

patriot plan is bad experienced for me ..couldn’t find doctors and costomer service is worst when I called they have all different answer and paying $116 for plan and not enough discount from the doctors and I ended up cancel and plan within 30 days and they charge $15 not refundable amount . I wont recommend to an one . I found a dental clinic in my irving,tx area and he charge me $85 for filling and $60 for cleaning and no exam and xray and he is charging $450 for crown and $350 for root canaling so its even better than plan.
