There is this sort of crime fetish, where people who commit crimes are the focus in a very ugly way. Such a lust for punishment is visceral on the right wing blogs discussing the war and political dissent. It is also evident in the media’s graphic description or “selling” of brutal crimes as a way to grab consumer’s attention.
Drawing attention and questions to justice of the laws themselves, and to prevention in the case of just laws being broken is one strategy.
But perhaps borrowing strategy and drawing attention to those who use the laws unjustly is an effective tactic? The RIAA is now the most hated company in America, after all.
