OVERLY-HARSH PUNISHMENTS: Steal 2 Hot Dogs = $100,000 bail.
Posted by Clint under Internet, Overly-Harsh Punishments, Politics, Software, Technology

A 74-year-old + 2 unpaid hot dogs = 1 felony charge, $100,000 bond, 71 days of jail time.
Then the bastards charged him with trespassing when he tried to go back and pay the $2.11 for the hot dogs.
Can you believe this? Then they made him go back to jail because he had a shopping cart. The justice system is not a tool to spend $10,000 to prosecute a $2 crime. Our tax dollars should go to… well… justice. And at a good R.O.I., too.

Right you are, Jesse. If this was another fascist country like Saudi Arabia, they would just cut their hands off.
That is heavy-handed, but only in America is the cost of being heavy-handed a 5-digit cost.
