It’s been known for some time that when printers print a page, they print a tiny pattern used to identify the printer that printed them.That is, if you print out what you think is an anonmous flyer, and put it up — it’s not really anonymous

Camping Light:
I need to get one of those.
Printers:
This is old news. I can see the reason to prevent counterfeiting, even though with the new measures in bills, this is probaly no longer neccessary. If you really want to print an anonymous flyer, go to Kinko’s. Or anywhere else where multiple computers are connected to one printer. Or print it in black and white.
I don’t think the privacy concerns are that huge here. Being able to indentify the printer doens’t neccesarily mean being able to identify the owner of that printer. And as far as anomymous flyers go, most of the cops who would be interested in finding out who di it(who violated our no posting on streetlights law kind of thing) probably aren’t even aware of this.
My biggest peeve is: So THAT’S why my yellow ink always runs out first. It’s a SCAM to make us replace our cartriges more often! :))
