And a few kings from Norway, and an Attorney General of Virginia in the 1700s. Go figure. Kings on the left, prophets on the right. So anyway, did you know that Harry Potter is thinly-veiled homosexual propaganda? CHRISTIANS SUCK? UK road cameras track all movement?

COMEDY: Harry Potter is thinly-veiled homosexual propaganda
Pretty funny!”Students segregated by gender,an attempt to encourage homosexual relationships. The most popular pastime is “Quidditch”, which involves riding hard shafts of wood, handling several balls, scoring points by penetrating the hoop.”

CHRISTIANS SUCK: Hindu prayer in Senate disrupted
Christians are not pro-democracy. They want a theocracy. In a country that is supposed to have separation of Church and State, we are still mostly run by religious fantacists.
The Christians don’t want anyone to be free to make a Hindu prayer.

TECHNOLOGY WAR: UK police to use new road cameras to track all citizens’ movement
Expect this trend to grow. This is not good.
If you can’t see that, you need to reevaluate your belief system.

GENOLOGY: William I, King of England aka William The Conqueror – one of my ancestors
I am partially descended from some various Kings (mostly of Norway, but William The Conqueror is the most notable) but also from this guy. So, I have kings on one side, and prophets on the other. Strange indeed.
My Dad has traced my family lineage back to the 100s (almost 2000 years). Many kings, knights, and even an attorney general of Virginia.http://www.geni.com

Regarding the Harry Potter stuff–
Do the people who believe that it’s secretly encouraging homo-erotic behavior or something somehow think that the Harry Potter world is the only place where same-sex schools exist? There are thousands of same-sex private schools all over the world…are they saying that all gender-separated schooling is encouraging people to be homosexual?!
The whole description of Quidditch as involving “riding hard shafts of wood” seriously cracked me up, though. I had never thought of it in *quite* that way…
Also, as far as I know, there are already road cameras all over the place in DC. They take pictures of anyone speeding above a certain amount. I think there might be some in Virginia, too, although I’m not sure.

Parthena — I think it was a joke. That site, Kuru5in or whatver it’s called, is mostly for story-writing and such. I forget why I RSS-subscribed to it (probably because it’s only like 1 post every 10 days, so it’s not to heavy-duty).
But yea, it was pretty funny.
The road cameras in d.c. are not the same thing as the article about the u.k. They actually have 2700+ licenseplate readers that actually identify the license plate of EVERY car. So they have data like “Parthena drove to starbucks at 5:05PM”. Here, it would just be like “Plate 7XG-2349 ran a red light at 5:05PM”.
Big difference.
And now, as of this week, they are just turning all that data over to the police. No warrants. they just get to track your every movement.

Hm, I see now how there’s a big difference between the two. You’re right, the UK version definitely seems more invasive. :\

Don’t worry. We’ll be at that point here in just a few more years. We basically follow the UK’s footsteps; they can implement things a bit quicker due to the small footprint of their country. There are already RFID chips in car tires, supposedly. I haven’t cut one open to see myself, yet…

Harry potter: hahahahahah
Cameras:
We might actually be closer than you think. Nowdays, traffic light sensors are mainly cameras. By traffic light sensors, I mean the ones that synchronize traffic lights to not make you wait to long. This technology is replacing the sensors that used to be imbedded in the road. Even in rural places like Front Royal, you will see a small housing on top of almost every traffic light. Yup, its got a camera in it.
Now it wouldn’t be a far stretch to add recording capabilty and license plate recognition. And since traffic lights are usually connected to some sort of network(to keep them all synchronized), the infrastructure is probably in place already too.

Chriggy — your “WE might actually be closer than you think” comment was in and of itself closer than you think! Check this out:
ACLU Protests Police Scanning License Plates
http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/07/30/0145253&from=rss
“The ACLU is objecting to the practice of police in Springdale, Ohio using an automated license-plate scanner on patrol cars to locate stolen vehicles or those whose owners are wanted on felony warrants. The scanner can read 900 license plates an hour traveling at highway speeds. So far, the scanner has located 95 stolen cars and helped locate 111 wanted felons. The locations of the license plates scanned are tagged with GPS data. All matches are stored (with no expiration date given) and can be brought up later and cross-referenced on a map. If the plate is wanted, the times and locations of where it was scanned can be referenced. The Springdale police department hopes to begin using the system soon to locate misdemeanor suspects. This system is also in use in British Columbia.”
So… looks like the difference will not be so big for long. We will be tracked here at the level they are tracked at the UK.
It seems the UK is a good predictor for how things will turn out here. Which is funny, because we revolted to be different than them, but now we just copy them..

Yeah, good old Billy Conq is my 28th great grandfather, so we’re probably something like 26th cousins. I love geni.com. It’s like crack for genealogists.
