. It’s so hard to buy receivers. They last longer than computers and some televisions. Their prices, however, vary much more than either computers or TVs. This link is one I am considering, but I really have no clue how to find what I want. The criteria I am looking for is here.
1) Am I missing any criteria?
2) Why shouldn’t I get the unit above? (Price is not an issue until we get past $1,000…)

QUESTIONS: What stereo should I buy?

I found out about this unit BY going to a store (MyerEmco), but no listening tests were performed.
Never in my life have I seen a store have an option to do a listening test with MY OWN music, which would be the most educational test for me.
I might have to stop by Circuit City I guess.
I also need QUALITY rear speakers. Of the same caliber as the rest of my speakers (left/right/center=$300 each, sub=$400).

Man, there should be a program that uses your speaker, and a microphone (sort of like the auto-speaker-configuration newer receivers have) to test (and display) the frequency response curves for speakers.
You know, so I could TEST a speaker to see how good it is!
Incidentally — digital subwoofers cost $1500-$2000 at Myer-Emco. I’d never even HEARD of that. And they have their own microphone, to adjust to the room (possibly in realtime). Crazy shit.

The guy was playing some music from the 2700 that we were looking at, but it wasn’t blasting or anything, but he was controlling the music with that receiver. The soft jazzy music. :)

Yea, I was unimpressed with the Myer-Emco private sale. They do have the best freakin’ customer service (hours devours were served! however you spell it! /or-derbs/)
but there was only one brand of stereo (with 2 models) I would have been willing to buy, so I didn’t see a point in a listening test, as I would not be *comparing* anything.
