  • OVERLY-HARSH PUNISHMENTS: UK Man arrested, DNA taken, held in cell for 18 hours — for dropping apple core
They dropped the charges, but justified his arrest because “people care” about littering. But 5000 pounds (~$8000?) were spent on the investigation. I’m sure the “people” would “care” about their money going to stop actual crime. Apples are biodegradable!

  • CONFORMITY, WATER CRISIS, AND HOMEOWNERS’ RIGHTS: Couple lets lawn die during declared drought; fined for not having grass
Ridiculous. I already think lawnmowing laws should be declared unconstitutional, but when the state declares a drought, and doesn’t allow watering between 12-6PM or on Mondays… why the hell are they fining people for helping by using even less water?

  • TASERS: Another day, another taser death, another coroner report stating “excited delirium” as a cause of death.
Just one problem: “excited delirium” is merely newspeak for “cops killed him”. This cause of death is not recognized by AMA, APA, DSM, etc., and only appears on coroner reports where peopled died when dealing with the police.

With the 50 year anniversary of my grandad’s cult this year, expect some more media coverage. My half-uncle blogs about his TV interview here.

  • NUCLEAR WAR: Ron Paul speaks about other Congress members asking not if we will attack Iran, but when. Video included.
You want a way to fuck up our economy and world standing even worse than the war in Iraq? didn’t think it possible? Think again. Democrats are putting up no resistance to Republican assholeism – they’re in it together.

  • ABUSE OF AUTHORITY: Corrupt Queens New York police harass bar owner that caught police framing [brown] people with fake drug charges. One of about 5 cops-lie-people-fry stories I’ve read in the past week.
Cops lied. Charges dropped. Cops fired. And now the bar that has the camera that caught them is being sold by the owner, who is being run out of town for doing the cops’ job (justice) for them. This type of oppression is why we revolted from the UK!

  • INNOCENCE PROJECT: 19th Dallas County inmate freed by DNA – 4 out of 4 victims picked the wrong black guy out of the lineup; that’s how it rolls in Texas. Without the Innocence Project, 100s of years of innocent life would be lost.
Thankfully we have DNA. This is also why testimony is unreliable, and conviction requires physical evidence. Unfortunately, that means rape needs evidence if you don’t want to put innocent people in prison.

  • PHOTOGRAPHERS’ RIGHTS: Another day, another photographer arrested for daring to photo something in plain view – a car crash caused by hot pursuit
This guy stood his ground, but then stupidly deleted the pictures which could prove his innocence. If he’s smart, he’ll recover the deleted files off his memory card. Looks like the Oklahoma City police are douchebags.

  • ABUSE OF AUTHORITY: Washington D.C. officer Kelvin Barksdale, 44, charged with attempted rape at gunpoint in Dumfries, VA
When you hear stories like this, you gotta wonder how many officers got away with it before one was caught. Police rape occurs daily. Even police rape of children occurs daily.

  • ABUSE OF AUTHORITY: Parole officer Thomas Millford Lambert charged with assaulting a 14-year-old boy umpiring a youth baseball game – sports, like power, bring out the worst in people
His charges were downgraded to simple assault (municipal court, NOT criminal court). Had the boy fought back, he’d get assaulting an officer, a much more serious charge. It’s ok to assault children in the face, apparently.

  • OVERLY-HARSH PUNISHMENTS: Why was she put on trial? $11K in legal fees, 18 months of heartache for credit card fraud. This woman had paid off both her cars and house! How can you go to jail for using a credit card that is yours? Another reason to use cash
Cashier pointed to wrong person! What if she hadn’t? Would Kim be in jail? I hate to say it,but this is why rape needs physical evidence. Eyewitnesses are unreliable. She should get her $11K back, but wont. OF COURSE authorities defend their actions, too!

Thanks for posting that story about the couple fined for not watering their lawn. That is absolutely outrageous. One of the most environmentally-friendly things you can do is let your lawn die.

In my old house in Norfolk, the neighbors joked me one fall for having to rake so many leaves from all the trees we had in our yard. So I stopped raking and just let the lawn die every winter. : )

Heh. I raked once. I didn’t like it.

    I didn’t do it again.

A couple times the leaves got so high in my downstairs door that I could just take a garbage bag and scoop them up, filling the bag in 10 seconds. THAT was cool.

    I didn’t do it again.

Fuck lawns. “Look at me, I can conform to other people’s yards!” I wish I could burn every last one of them.

I’ve never, ever watered my lawn. It’s gone dormant, but never died. Grass is surprisingly hardy. IMO, if it can’t survive the climate without artificial watering, you’ve probably planted the wrong type of grass for the climate.

And screw raking. Gas powered leaf blower :)

Ok, so my motivations aren’t entirely environmental.
