Virginia, Donnie Darko and Bunnymen
This is weird. Donnie Darko is based on a Virginia urban legend?

Donnie Darko is one of my favorite movies of all time. I had no idea that the movie was based in MIddlesex, VA, though. (that explains why such weird shit happens…it’s Virginia!! I kid, I kid)
That movie stayed with me for weeks after I Saw it. Every time I thought of it, some new aspect of the plot would reveal itself…so complex.

I actually need to see it again, because I was thoroughly unimpressed with it despite amazing recommendations from many people who’s opinions I respected. I’m glad the article is interesting!

Hmm, when did you see it last?
I really get sucked into the “feel/mood” of a movie, I suppose; the first 15 minutes of Donnie Darko, even, just had me spellbound. There was something very otherworldly and ethereal about it. The ending was just…incredible, in my opinion. I hope that when you rewatch it, you like it more! :)

Oh yea — the only time I saw it was around 2003.

Actually, the director is from Virginia (although it was shot in California…?)
He talks about it in the DVD commentary.
I don’t know if it was based on that legend or not…
Being that Donnie actually killed the bunny…

Middlesex isn’t a real va city, its made up. The bunnyman bridge is in clifton, va and since Donnie Darko heavily borrowed from that urban legend they decided to have their movie setting in va. i think it was filmed in both california and canada.

Middlesex is a real place in VA, I live near there

Middlesex (city/town) in Accomack County does exist, it is located on US-13, and there is also a Middlesex County which is on the Rappahannock River, so NFV is correct, everyone else that says it is non-existant is incorrect.
