I’ve been grabbing a lot of episodes of “cartoons that never should have been” lately. Not for watching, but mostly for having. And laughing at. And fast-forwarding through. And getting a feel of how bad they were. I present you with screenshots from “Dumb & Dumber” (the animated series) (1995) (imdb).
Possibly the most disturbing thing about this show was the seemingly unnoticed overt sexual innuendo theme song. This seems to be a really good example of the TV trope referred to as “Getting Crap Past The Radar“. Observe the theme’s beginning: Just like the movie, they act like total idiots, see a hot chick, freak out about it, both go after her without considering that they are in competition with each other, and go through great lengths to impress her, while looking like an idiot.
But here…. Here is the part that slays me. Oh My God. Prepare yourself….:
Yes, when they finally get the chick… she unzips and removes her outer self to reveal…. a beaver. And we all know what that is slang for. So, they chase a woman so that they can get to her inner beaver. Yes. It’s true. And the beaver? It’s actually one of the 3 main characters of the show. As far as I am concerned, they have a walking vagina as a character in a children’s cartoon. Maybe this was aimed at a more adult audience than usual? Considering that they go to Las Vegas and gamble in this episode, that may be the case. Or maybe censors just weren’t quite as crazy in 1995 as they were in 1985. I don’t know, but it warrants further explanation. Attention show creators: Please contact me and tell me what the hell you were thinking! :)
Of course Jim Carrey is too big to have participated. But Matt Frewer is awesome! You may remember him as “Max Headroom/Edison Carter”, “Jackal” from Gargoyles, and “The Leader” (big green-head guy) from the 1990s Incredible Hulk animated series. And Bill Fagerbakke was from Gargoyles too (“Broadway”)! Hell, he was even in 2 episodes of Heroes (2007). We also have (not pictured) Bronson Pinchot (“Balki Bartokomous” from Perfect Strangers), Kath Soucie (another great voice actor), Kathy Najimy (“Peggy Hill” from King Of The Hill), and Tom Kenny (the narrator in The PowerPuff Girls, and another very accomplished voice actor).
Here are the shots from where they visit a vegas casino, who’s claim to fame was that Elvis Presley puked there once. Notice the metal bust with “Elvis Puked Here” engraved on it. They are too stupid to play blackjack, walking away thinking they are at 2 out of 21 and that it would take forever to get up to 21 (They actually had an ace and a king, giving them blackjack). Inexplicably, the dealer seems to be a Darth Vader parody.
The unwholesome undertones almost make me think this might be worth watching. But I doubt I will ever get around to it. There’s just too much to watch.

Hehe-Wow, somehow I feel like this should win the award for “worst Cartoon ever.” The movie was filled with sex-related jokes and adult humor, I can’t imagine how they’d make it into a children’s cartoon show..!
And, ok, that beaver inside the woman’s skin has traumatized me. Especially since, apparently, as the beaver is emerging from the woman’s flesh, the two main characters seem more amused than shocked.

God. That movie was a total piece-of-shit. And I hate cartoons that look like this. Bad art.

Parthena: I actually think this is not the worst cartoon ever. It’s probably better than “MOST” of my featured “Cartoons That Never Should Have Been”. Just wait until the New Kids On The Block animated series review!
I know this, because I’ve written articles #3-#8 already, they are scheduled to be posted every Tuesday and Friday. :) I’m working on #9 (Pole Position:TAS) next…

If you look at the guy on the left his chin is shaped like testicles and his head looks kind of like a penis.

Ahahaha, nice try, but no, it wasn’t me.
I did notice that this was linked to from a torrent site, and was flattered that whoever did upload more of these episodes somewhere decided to use my posting as a summary. That was a cool form of very subtle recognition.
But alas it was not I who posted them, Brad.

I for one, have to disagree with you on this blog. Admittedly, it wasn’t a very good cartoon but in my ever so humble opinion I think it’s miles beyond anything that’s on kids saturday morning shows these days. I’ve seen almost every episode (All but one have been uploaded to Youtube) and while I understand why it got cancelled (who the hell did watch this when it was actually coming on?) I don’t think it deserves any sort of worst cartoon award. I think it’s much better than the other two Jim Carey animated spin-offs (i.e. The Mask: A.S and Ace Ventura: The A.S.)
That being said, I do like this blog… Very amusing stuff on here.. So kudos to you on that, I just had to voice my opinion.

It’s satire – I haven’t actually watched this cartoon. And I intend to watch every episode at some point :)
