movie coverI'd rather be watching TV![IMDB link] [Netflix link] Guess I should watch this sometime. I was always a big fan of the SNL sketch. Unfortunately, many months passed between watching the movie and reviewing it, so I don’t have too much to say.

HAIKU REVIEW: I reviewed this late.
So I don’t remember much.
I think it was good?

(It did exceed my expectations, but that was all I originally wrote.)

PEOPLE: Dan Aykroyd & Jane Curtin. Michael Richards, Phil Hartman (RIP), Adam Sandler, David Spade, Jason Alexander (aka Duckman), Michelle Burke, Parker Posey, Chris Farley, Kevin Nealon, Jan Hooks, Julia Sweeney, Ellen DeGeneres, Laraine Newman, Jon Lovitz, Sinbad, Drew Carey.

QUIRKS: The Coneheads get stuck on Earth, so they are forced to live there longer than they expected. The wife was pregnant, so they raise their daughter on Earth. Then the time comes for them to go back to their planet, but the daughter doesn’t want to go because she’s in love and doesn’t want to move. So they do go back to their planet, but then realize they don’t want to live there after all.

VISUALS: I did NOT expect to see the original Conehead planet! That was a treat! I thought the budget would be too low.

MORALS: Let your kids be who they want to be; don’t force them to be someone they’re not — or to move to another planet.

POLITICS: INS can be real dicks, but if there are actual alien beings, I think.. INS should indeed try to capture them.

BAD STUFF: It’s a movie based on a Saturday Night Live sketch. That is often a recipe for automatic disaster in most peoples’ books.

CONCLUSION: Totally exceeded my expectations, and had an amazing cast full of people I don’t see often enough in movies. I can’t rate it very accurately because I’m writing this a good 6 months after watching it, but I’d estimate 3-4 stars on Netflix, and 6-7 on IDMB.

RECOMMENDATION: Many people overlooked this… But perhaps this was a mistake. I’d recommend checking it out again, if you thought the original sketch funny, and if you think the cast looks appealing.
