movie coverI'd rather be watching TV![IMDB link] [Netflix link] We’re watching a lot of sequels lately…

LIMERICK REVIEW: There once was a film called The Grudge 2;
A sequel that was not a total pile of poo.
Though a bit scattered —
People were still splattered.
I managed to scare Carolyn by yelling “Boo!”.

HAIKU REVIEW: Japanese horror
redone Americanized
is still good horror.

PEOPLE: Directed by Takashi Shimizu, who also directed The Grudge 1 and the Japanese Grudge 1 & 2. Has Sarah Michelle Gellar (for a bit, to give it legitimacy probably). But mostly is a bunch of kid actors.

QUIRKS/VISUALS: Pretty much the same movie as The Grudge 1, which we really liked.

BAD STUFF: It was a bit scattered and confusing compared to The Grudge 1. Scenes were shown out of order. Several stories ran in parallel, and had very little to do with each other until the end, when it is revealed how they relate to each other. This didn’t work nearly as well as The Grudge 1.

CONCLUSION: Definitely scary due to the style! Carolyn had to look behind her like 20 times. Even I did once. But not as good as The Grudge 1.

RECOMMENDATION: If you thought The Grudge 1 was average, you might want to skip it. If you liked The Grudge 1 a lot — you should watch this. I suppose we’ll watch The Grudge 3 at some point, too.

SIMILAR MOVIES: The Ring is somewhat similar to The Grudge — Japanese-based, evil spirits, you die if something happens to you (watching a video vs going in a house).

MOVIE QUOTE: Miyuki: They say it is one of the most haunted houses in all of Japan.
Vanessa: Yeah, and that anyone who enters gets the curse.

COINCIDENCES: (Without A Paddle 2, The Grudge 2) 2 sequels in a row that had a dying woman ask someone else to find her descendent and bring her back to her.
