This is the song that got me (and by extension Carolyn) into the Dead Kennedys. It is from the Alternative Tentacles Virus 100 tribute album, which we bought explicity to get this NoMeansNo track. You see, we were big NoMeansNo fans, going back to 1991 (high school) or so. I never actually listened to a Dead Kennedys album until 1999 or so, as a post-college mp3-capable homeowner.

It is an a capella cover of “Forward To Death”. Like most tracks on Virus 100, I like it even better than the Dead Kennedys version.

Virus 100 is in my top 3 tribute albums of all time (along with Saturday Morning Cartoon’s Greatest Hits and Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks), and probably in my top 100 albums of all time too. I was ecstatic to meet a girl in college who had the cover / Alternative Tentacles logo as a tattoo on her arm. Alas, I am not good at keeping in touch with people, and forgot who she was. (more…)

I dreamed that the Voivod + Kreator show I’m about to go to actually happened at a house party. Somehow, I was so busy talking & smoking with people in the back rooms, that I didn’t even notice Voivod had played in the basement. I was VERY disappointed that I had missed them, as I had seen Kreator before, but not Voivod.
