movie coverI'd rather be watching TV![IMDB link] [Netflix link] This is the “alternate” movie to the original Anchorman movie, comprised of 93 minutes of throw-away subplots and extra footage.

PEOPLE: Will Farrell, Chrstina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner (who had a bit part in Sex Drive), Kevin Corrigan (who had a bit part in Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist and was in Superbad), Fred Willard, Seth Rogan (bit part), Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live, with guest parts on Tim And Eric, Sarah Silverman Program, Human Giant, Squidbillies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, 30 Rock, Freak Show, and was even in Melvin Goes To Dinner), Amy Poehler (bit part), Laura Kightlinger (bit part, but always awesome to see her), Stephen Root (Office Space, News Radio, King Of The Hill), etc. Great cast.

QUIRKS: If you’ve seen Anchorman:The Legend Of Ron Burgundy… then you know exactly what to expect. This is simply the “deleted movie” that came out of that movie. I have already seen at least one request for a combination fan edit, which would run over 3 hours.

CONCLUSION: IMDB: 7/10. Netflix: 3/5 stars, but very tempted to rate it 4 stars. I’m torn. At least 3.5 stars, really. This is definitely at least one cut above generic comedy.

RECOMMENDATION: If you liked the first movie, and want more — here’s more. It’s not better. It’s just… More. Still plenty of laughs! The scene where the David Koechner declares his love for Ron Burgundy, and everyone in the car ignores him, so he just keeps saying it louder and louder for like 5 minutes — was so incredibly painful; a “squirm comedy” masterpiece.

MOVIE QUOTE: [opening narration]
Bill Lawson: There are stories epic, and grand stories that are forever lost in the sands of time, forgotten or changed by cruel kings who can hear only the whispers of these lost legends. Still other tales become too frightening for future generations to impart to their young. But other stories are lost to us because they don’t test well with recruited audiences, or because a movie is too long, and the story must be cut for time. This is one of those tales. This is the chaff from the wheat, the skim from the milk, the pudding from the all-you-can-eat lobster buffet, and the surgeon guy from Prince and the Revolution. This is the lost movie “Wake Up, Ron Burgundy.”

FRIENDS’ RATINGS: Benj liked it.
