Dreamt I was eating a huge plate of eggs.

They had square corners, and were stacked on top of each other like pancakes. I was eating the corner off of one. Mmmmm.

''Dreams... They're the hurricanes that wash the soulfilth from the superdome of our nightminds.'' --Xavier:Renegade Angel

“Dreams… They’re the hurricanes that wash the soulfilth from the superdome of our nightminds.”
Xavier:Renegade Angel

movie coverI'd rather be watching TV![IMDB link] [Netflix link]

PEOPLE: Mel Gibson. Tina Turner (!!!… 2 songs of hers in the soundtrack). Bruce Spence (the Gyro Captain from Mad Max 2), in a much much smaller, almost non-speaking role… You’d think he wouldn’t be such a dick after getting his ass saved in Mad Max 2, but noooooo.

VISUALS: Probably the best visual presentation of any Mad Max movie. The Thunderdome was pretty damn inspiring. They obviously had a higher budget.

SOUNDTRACK: Tina Turner?!?!?! Fortunately I didn’t notice.

MORALS: Max is starting to get some?

BAD STUFF: Minor: They should have kept the deleted scenes in, as usual. Fuck pacing; tell me the whole story.

Major: This almost felt like two different movies that had no explanation to tie them. Bartertown, and the Tomorrow Morrow land kids. IMDB supports this in the trivia, saying: “Originally, the film was supposed to be about a group of children living without parents in the wild. They were trying to decide what adult character would find them, when someone thought of Max. After that suggestion, it became a Mad Max film.” The link between the two different parts of the movie is very tenuous…

Major Spoilers: Why would Max want to go back and save Master? Just because Blaster was retarded? Master was still telling Blaster to break Max’s neck. Master was still a douchebag. Aunt Entity ordered him killed, and Max obliged. But then he finds out Blaster is retarded and now feels bad about it? He’s more of an anti-hero than a hero! And because of that, he wants revenge on Aunt Entity? Why does he suddenly give a rat’s ass? I guess he has compassion for someone with a childlike mind, after having his own child killed in Mad Max 1. But still. It seemed far fetched that he was suddenly buddy-buddy with a douchebag who had tried to kill him previously and wouldn’t give him back his car!

While I loved the language of the child tribe, they just seemed to randomly take over the movie, and it declined into something a bit more sappy from that point out. I didn’t even realize that it was really about them until the movie ended, and then it’s like, “Oh, that’s it? It’s about the children? Pffft.”

And why did pig killer send that monkey? What was he expecting? How did it find Max? (He must have watched the movie already!) I saw rumors of a deleted workprint scene where Max found the monkey in a cage in the desert and freed him. If that’s true, it’s yet another scene they should have left in that would have made things make more sense. This movie felt like a lot of random stuff thrown together. Still entertaining, but not as coherent as #2 or even #1.

CONCLUSION: I actually liked Mad Max 2: Road Warrior better. This had some major holes in it and felt “all over the place”. I don’t like it when I don’t understand motivations or where a movie is going, unless it’s for a pleasant surprise. Which this was not.

RATINGS: Netflix: 3/5 stars. IMDB: 6/10 for Clint, 8/10 for Carolyn.
I keep telling Carolyn 8/10 is too high for 3 stars movie… Gotta leave room for 5-star movies (9/10 and 10/10) and 4-star movies (8/10 and some 7/10s) :)

RECOMMENDATION: Definitely see this… It’s highly referenced in other movies. But you should definitely check out Mad Max 2: Road Warrior as well.

SIMILAR MOVIES: The same writer/director is directing Mad Max 4. Let’s hope he learned from his mistakes.

WILHELM SCREAM: Three, but we noticed none of them.

MOVIE QUOTE: “Two men enter, one man leave!”

SAMPLES!: Carolyn correctly noticed and identified a sample from a song we listen to… The song Poundsauce (lyrics HERE) by the Ministry-related band Skatenigs. They sample, “Take your chances with the law”, and “justice is only a roll of the dice”, from the wheel-spinning scene. Unfortunately this is not on YouTube, but here are 2 other Skatenigs videos (below).

FRIENDS’ RATINGS: Christian D loved it. Benj liked it.

^ Beavis & Butt-head watched this one. It is unfortunately missing the opening female spoken word part, which I will quote here, even though it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Mad Max:

As immaturity may be a result of certain chemical imbalances
so may the friggin’ skatenigs, flick the trigger on the sucker
squealing studs of puddness,
they sing stuck in a rut in pig pog land
they share rigs with grave diggers,
worry about death when its done come and gone,
you buy their records and they’ll piss on your momma’s best collectables.
they beat their rancid meat and expect you to pay the check
they ream the beef of bad backstage girls
redundant in new wave black
up the butt, snuck, stuck, mucked-up, sucked
I’d eat baboon bowel before I’d bite on their juvenile, penile pole projections
they casually, smashingly refer to as “my dick”
Infected, rejected, afflicted, mal-addicted, boa constrictive
if immaturity is a indeed a certain result of chemical imbalances,
then these guys are on a permanent, Amaco overload.
Crawling through maggot breath, yeehaaaaaw
boys with latex toys,
if buttholes were peepshows then the Nigs are the window to the soul
of this fucking ridiculous world
Banality’s got nothin’ on these boyos
enough to sign royalty checks,
the forged signitaure
the toilet swipe,
the mega-acid smile
the glitch in the universal way, yeah…
a real boss abortion to brag about at your next barbeque

And here’s Loudspeaker, which has some samples, but not from this movie:
