movie coverI'd rather be watching TV![IMDB link] [Netflix link] An MTV2 animated series, which means, in MTV tradition, that you only get one short season.

The dad is Bender from Futurama — John Di Maggio (who is also, surprisingly, Aqua Man in Batman:The Brave And The Bold, The Joker from Batman:Under The Red Hood, Jake from Adventure Time, Hammerhead from The Spectacular Spider-Man, the dog catcher from Where My Dogs At?, Hak Foo from Jackie Chan Adventures, The Scotsman from Samurai Jack, Schnitzel from Chowder, Burt The Spurt from The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto, Toyman from Superman/Batman:Doomsday, Deimos from Wonder Woman).

The mom and/or daughters and others are Cree Summer, i.e. Foxxy Brown in Drawn Together. This isn’t even listed in IMDB, it’s just plainly obvious when you watch it. The IMDB page for this series is seriously lacking.

Also doing voice work are Phil LaMarr (Hermes from Futurama, Samurai Jack from Samurai Jack, Judge from 45 eps of Family Guy, Roger ‘Booda’ Sack from 18 eps of King Of The Hill, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Bolivar Trask from Wolverine & The X-Men, Irwin’s dad from The Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy, Black Vulcan from Harvey Birdman:Attorney At Law, Green Lantern from Justice League, MadTV), Masasa Moyo (Sarah from Team America:World Police), Khary Payton (Cyborg from Teen Titans, Dracula 2:Ascension).

QUIRKS: Drug use, unemployment — this is basically the movie, if it were an adult animated cartoon. Expect this to have the same tropes.

VISUALS: Flash animation, but with depth of field. That made it look more organic than most flash animation.

SOUNDTRACK: It’s got an appropriate theme song.

GOOD STUFF: Condoleeza Rice ep was hilarious. As was the 420 episode.

BAD STUFF: Only 8 episodes!!!!

CONCLUSION: If only there were more adult cartoon series based on movies! This was pretty damn funny!

Clint: Netflix: 4/5 stars. IMDB: 8/10.
Carolyn: Netflix: 4/5 stars. IMDB: 8/10.

The native public rating for this movie is: IMDB: 5.6/10, Netflix: 3.0/5 stars (Netflix‘s predicted rating for us was also 3.0/5 stars). Pretty generic-ly rated.

It should be noted that 30% of people rated this 10/10, and 37% rated it 1/10. And the group that rated it the highest? Males aged 45+, then males aged 18-29. The lowest? Females.

RECOMMENDATION: Grab yourself a couple drinks, and try to watch all 8 episodes in 1 or 2 nights. It’s less than 3 hours total. It’s addictive, and easy to burn though these fast. Watch it on a Friday — ’cause you ain’t got shit to do.

+(real life, Friday:TAS #1) Right after playing with voodoo dolls in the “Cursed!” board game the night before, and meaning to do it again tonight but not getting around to it, the first episode of Friday:TAS – which we only decided to watch tonight – had voodoo dolls in it!

(Friday:TAS #3, Bro’Town #5) 2 cartoons 2 nights in a row with animated black people talking about Notorious B.I.G. and 2-Pac being dead.

(Friday:TAS #6, Bro’Town #13) 2 cartoons in a row with black characters realizing they are going to have to get a job, then going, “Nooooooooo!!!!”

(Friday:TAS #7, Bro’Town #14) 2 cartoons in a row with black characters talking about segregation.
