I'd rather be watching TV![IMDB link] [Not available on Netflix.]

PEOPLE: Same as the last movie.

PLOT SUMMARY: This movie – the 2nd movie based on the Higurashi anime – covers the 6th story arc, “Atonement”, which concludes the first 26-episode season/series. However, it was not scene-for-scene identical, like the first Higurashi movie. The arc was slightly modified. For instance, Shion (Mion’s twin) didn’t exist, and a lot of the plot regarding the Sonozakai family was omitted.

QUIRKS: Based on an anime that is based on a game.

VISUALS: Kind of low-budget looking, like the first movie.

GOOD STUFF: The action scenes seemed a lot cooler in live action than when animated.

BAD STUFF: Still harder to tell the characters apart than in the cartoon.

CONCLUSION: Much better than the first Higurashi movie. More action, too.

Clint: Netflix: 4/5 stars. IMDB: 7.6/10 (“low 8”).
Carolyn: Netflix: 3.6/5 stars (“low 4 stars”). IMDB: 7.6/10 (“low 8”).
The native public rating for this movie is: IMDB: 5.9/10 — a tenth of a point lower than the first Higurashi movie. That’s very strange to hear, since we both think this one was a lot better than the first.

RECOMMENDATION: If you’re considering watching this movie, you must have already watched the first. This one’s better. So if you’ve come this far, you may as well continue.

If you haven’t watched the first movie — this one stands up on its own. You could skip it. It’s not as good.
