movie coverI'd rather be watching TV![IMDB link] [Netflix link]

UNCOMFORTABLE PLOT SUMMARY (inspired by this): [highlight for spoilers] Jews kill Nazis. (Actually, I’m pretty comfortable with that.)

PEOPLE: A Quentin Tarantino film. That alone should tell you what to expect.

Brad Pitt’s role was originally going to go to Adam Sandler!?!? But Sandler went and did Funny People instead.

QUIRKS: Not as violent as your typical war movie… But still with an incredibly high body count, due to the ending.

SOUNDTRACK: There was a Wilhelm scream! Actually, it was split into 2 and used twice.

MORALS: Killing Nazis kicks ass.

CONCLUSION: This was great! Slow-building, but in a non-boring way, which is a great accomplishment. I am usually bored by slow-building movies. Also, there are 2 sets of characters who really never interact with each other [or even know the others exist]. Usually movies with separate plotlines that barely affect each other just piss me off as cinematic masturbation (I hate Short Cuts!!!!). But in this case, it was done well. I’m not a huge fan of war movies, but I do like almost any story when it is told well. And this was told quite well indeed.

AND THEN YOU HAVE THE ENDING!! This is the single greatest ending of any war movie ever! I really did not expect it to play out like that! hahaha!!!!!!! The lightness of the ending helped contrast the heaviness of the rest of the movie, keeping things from getting so seroius as to not feel like a Tarantino movie. The ending really was the icing on the cake that helped ensure this gets a 5-star rating from both of us!

RATINGS:
Clint: Netflix: 5/5 stars. IMDB: 8/10. Tho I rate this the same as the movie Gamer, the last movie I watched … It seems this was everything Gamer was not, and Gamer was everything this was not.
Carolyn: Netflix: 5/5 stars. IMDB: 9/10.
The native public rating for this movie is Netflix: 4.3/5 stars (5.5/5 stars for people who rate like me), IMDB: 8.5/10 (Top 250: #55).

RECOMMENDATION: This is a great WW2 movie! One where you actually can distinguish the characters from each other! See it! Tarantino can’t make a bad film!

SIMILAR MOVIES: Hard to say. This isn’t quite like a typical action-driven war movie. It’s definitely an obvoius work of Tarantino!

MOVIE QUOTE: Lt. Aldo Raine: Each and every man under my command owes me one hundred Nazi scalps… and I want my scalps!

COINCIDENCES:

(Inglourious Basterds, Venture Bros. s4e1) 2 videos where [highlight for spoilers] Hitler gets killed within a month or so. [highlight for spoilers] To paraphrase a Brock Samson quote, “Well, I killed Hitler. That’s one thing on my list of cool stuff to do that I didn’t think I’d ever get to cross off.”

(Inglourious Basterds, Gamer) 2 movies in a row where a character had a throat-slitty scar on their neck.

(Inglourious Basterds, The Marvelous Misadventures Of Flapjack #7B) 2 videos in the same night with talk of the Bubonic plague.

FRIENDS’ RATINGS: Ian really liked it. Parthena wasn’t sure about the ending.
