Yes, I keep track of this stuff!

We watched over 174 movies in 2010. This was a 28% drop from 2009 (241 movies), so our TV-series viewing was up in 2010. We watched 69 series, 12 pilots, 4 specials, 5 one-offs, and 2 documentaries.

Note that I try to list the more obscure stuff first, to the extent it’s possible. NOTE!!! Most links point to reviews I’ve written.

CELEBRITIES:

* Richard Dunn (RIP) – acting reel (~8min). You will be missed, my pep pep. (Don’t forget to send him some bones.)

.

* John Stamos: Frier’s Club Roast of John Stamos – Surprisingly funny! Except for Jon Lovitz. He’s just sad. This was the only show watched in New Jersey… in my life.

CARTOONS, COMEDY, CURRENTLY AIRING:

* Adventure Time With Finn And Jake Superjail meets Flapjack? But total fantasy. Seems like it works on multiple levels – a 3-yr old could enjoy this, but not on our level. Where the hell do they think of this stuff?!?! Is this for kids? Everyone keeps saying no, but I think a lot of the stuff we watched as kids was twisted in its own right. Just not quite like this. Bender from Futurama voices Jake, which makes it that much better. 5/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +Boondocks, The – Watched S3 a bit later than everyone else. Damn, it may have been the best season yet. 5/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +American Dad – 5/5 stars, 10/10. All new episodes, plus the following re-runs watched by Clint while Carolyn was skiing: S2E01[Camp Refugee], S2E02 [Stan gets anorexic,Poltergeist reenactment,Kirsten Dunst teeth haha], S2E03 [Stan pretends to go crazy to save $10/mo,Haley:”I’ve…done things”(whored out for food money),Stan’s messed up], S2E04 [log cabin republicans:Stan:”The hate we’re using to hate gays should be used to hate Democrats instead!”], S2E05 [WoW-esque stuff:the amulet of resurrection is a suppository haha], S2E07 [Stan’s a secret 20-year ice skater;is too competitive–framing device is Klaus as a human in the future reading to his grandson.”You were a fish?! Isn’t THAT a more interesting story than 2 people ice skating?”], S2E08 [Klaus’s dreams that his real name is Prof. Max Hammer,Stan is a moron,Steve goes to NYC,Gilbert Grape squirrels, they think Stan is killed for weeks], S2E9 [war on Xmas/time travel ruins,re-defines Xmas,Stan has to shoot Reagan, but doesn’t hit Brady,so everything’s back to normal but guns are easier to get], S2E10 [Bush comes to dinner], S2E11 [immigrant/holiday stuffed bear], S2E14 [Stan tricks everyone into thinking a nuclear war happened,so they live in the woods, then come back, mountain man kidnaps Haley during Roger’s wedding to a Jewish woman so he can get a blender before the next ep of Grey’s Anatomy].

.

* +Aqua Teen Hunger Force – Still great. 5/5 stars, 9/10.

.

* +Archer – hilarious new dialog-driven spy-parody cartoon from the makers of SeaLab 2021 & Frisky Dingo. With H. Jon Benjamin, and his bitchy mother played by the similarly-bitch matriarch in Arrested Development. 5/5 stars, 9/10.

.

* +Cleveland Show, The – the worst of the 3 Seth MacFarlane cartoons, but still worth watching. People say it’s not funny, but the humor really is just about up to par with the other Seth Green shows. 4/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +Family Guy – 5/5 stars, 9/10. all new eps + reruns with notes: #137_Go,Stewie,Go (comments: This is so messed up!! Both parents attracted to the new young couple of Meg+normal boyfriend… Jesus dodgeball!! haha .. FFF:”Larry King repelled by ancient amulet.” … Seinfeld incidental music (“rape”) ftw. Jesus Christ, Meg ripped her tooth out. wtf. …Anne Hathaway??), #138_Peter-Assment (Terry Schiavo musical? Bwahahhahaa. It wipes its neck with the soda can! Quagmire inside of Peter’s clothes so he can have sex while Peter pretends to have sex? Frickin’ brilliant. Reminds me of Transformers somehow, like 2 that combine into 1. haha. … I knew Mort was perfect for her. haha)

.

* King Of The Hill – 2 unaired 2010 episodes. Now it’s over. About goddamn time. 3/5 stars, 7/10.

.

* +Life And Times Of Tim, The – The cringe-comedy animated triumph of 2010! Poor Tim. Poor, poor Tim. 4/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +Mad (Mad TV-TAS) – Poor man’s Robot Chicken really describes this quite accurately. Watched all S1 except 8 & 11. 4/5 stars, 7/10.

.

* Marvelous Misadventures Of Flapjack, The – More of a kids show than an adult show, but sufficiently twisted and funny that we got hooked. I believe some friends like Radha and/or Andy & Lauren mentioned this show a few times, which influenced us to end up watching it.  Ratings: Clint: 4/5 stars, 8/10. Ca: 5/5 stars, 9/10.

.

* +Muddle Earth – Fantasy comedy. Muddle Earth is a poor man’s Discworld. Not even 3 episodes in, we are asking — can we stand this? It’s just not delivering. It’s so dry we can’t tell if it’s aimed at adults or kids. But after awhile… It’s seeming like kids! It’s ever-so-slightly entertaining, but not entertaining enough to keep us engaged. It’s just NOT EXCITING. The animation is very interesting though. It’s flash, with it’s super-smooth motions, but it’s also hand-drawn looking at parts. The music is ridiculously serious for how low-key the events that are actually happening are. It’s kind of like a video game in that respect. The voice actors sound as excited as a nursing home at 2AM. Part of the amazement is that a show so fluid and stylized can end up being SOO poorly written. I think it’s just.. The British. Bad British stuff is sooooooo much worse than bad American stuff. We aborted this after 8 episodes or so. We gave it at least four times the chance it really deserved, and it was left wanting. Fuck this show. 2/5 stars, 3/10.

.

* +Neighbors From Hell – Nice to see TBS doing adult animation, not enough networks are. This show was awesome, and a great way to get Satan on television! This was as twisted as any AdultSwim prime cartoon, except it was 22 minutes instead of 11.5/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +Ricky Gervais Show, The – Hard to believe 3 guys sitting around can be so funny! These are the original Guinness-record-making podcasts, with animation added so that you can watch them instead of listen to them. I tend to think of Stephen Merchant as a less talkative Mark [dude in glasses], Ricky Gervais as me, and John The Canadian as Karl Pilkington. This got picked up for a second season, which is currently airing. 5/5 stars, 7/10.

.

* Regular Show – #1A: Not impressed by first half-ep. #1B: That was so much better! Weird video game stuff too. Not sure if this will be “picked up” by us as a (pun intended) regular show for us to watch. 3/5 stars, 6/10.

.

* Robot Chicken – Christmas Special. I’m in withdrawal. Not much Robot Chicken this year. But a new season is airing in 2011! This show is 5/5 stars, 10/10!

.

* Robotomy – From the director of Superjail and I believe some people associated with The Venture Bros.. First ep “Frenemy” was all about Facebook (and Twitter) which was kinda funny. 2nd ep “Bling Thing” was about robot upgrades and surprised me with how much violence there is, but it’s allowed because they’re robots. No Child Left Benign was decent too. Still not sure how much we like this show, but since it’s by the Superjail animators we’ll watch a few more episodes in 2011. 3/5 stars, 7/10.

.

* +Simpsons, The – Including 20 Yr Anniversary Special. I dare say the series has been on an upturn this year. It’s been hit and miss these past few years, but this season has been almost all hits. I think they must have gotten some new talent. 4/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +Squidbillies – Season 5. The “other” cartoon by the Aqua Teen Hunger Force creators. AdultSwim lives on. This show is great, but not the best.  The best part was when Parthena had to leave the room and hide in the kitchen until one of the episodes was over. “Now defecate your own to-go box!” 4/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +South Park – as strong as ever. Cthulhu! Cthulhu! Cthulhu! Still in the top 1% of all television, ever! 5/5 stars, 9/10.

.

* +Ugly Americans – Great new show! Yet another cartoon from Augenblick Studios (Superjail, and I think Robotomy). This one goes for more intelligent humor than most adult cartoons. It’s slightly drier at times, but still ends up with a lot of laugh out loud laughs too. It is supremely quirky, and one of the most unique cartoons to ever air. An alternate society where mythical monsters are real, and are integrating into our society with the help of social workers? Absolutely brilliant. 4/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +Venture Bros. – Better than last season. Yet another show that is getting better! 5/5 stars, 8/10. If this was the season that has that episode that plays backwards — you should download the chronological fan edits found on bittorrent trackers. Much better in order. The episode was obfuscated in a way that did not add to it.

CARTOONS, COMEDY, RECENTLY AIRING:

* Bro’ Town – New Zealand’s first adult animated cartoon. Watched all 5 Seasons. Clint: 3.4/5 stars, 7/10. Carolyn: 4/5 stars, 8/10. Click show name for detailed review.

.

* Bromwell High – Canada-animated UK-written adult cartoon show about a UK high school with only 1 white person. This show ends the notion that Americans mis-use the English language the most, haha. 4/5 stars, 7.8/10. Click show name for detailed review.

.

* Chilly Beach – Canada-animated adult cartoon that is not actually that funny. Most of the humor revolves around the characters being idiots. But they aren’t idiots in a particularly entertaining way. #1: Not that funny. #2: Markedly better. #3: OK. Dunno if we’ll make it through this one… So far, I would rate this 2.8/5 stars, 5/10.

.

* Friday:TAS – Yes, there’s an 8-ep animated MTV series based on the movie.  The 420 ep is top notch.  4/5 stars, 8/10. Click show name for detailed review.

.

* Kevin Spencer – Mont Surreal – Awesome to find more unwatched episodes of this great Canadian series! I always call this series “the Canadian South Park, if it were done with a Beavis & Butt-head budget and set of morals”. The show’s tagline is, after all, “He’s a chainsmoking, alcoholic sociopath.” 5/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* Rick & Steve The Happiest Gay Couple In The World – Watched all 10 eps. Animated somewhat Robot-Chicken-style with lego(?)/weeble type toys. About a town where everyone is gay. Watched with TwoBeans. We all loved it. Hilariously funny. Found this via the IMDB “adult animation” keyword, sorted by rating. It was about #30-50 on the list, one of the few things on the list I had not seen. 5/5 stars, 9/10.

.

* Space Ghost Coast To Coast – The Room April Fool’s Day bumpers (10min) … Okay, it may just be bumpers and not actual episodes, but still. That was weird. Always nice to get some fresh SGCTC after the series pretty much died. Tommy Wisou, director of The Room, is weird, and was in all of these, as well as the episode of Tim And Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! which he “directed”. Not rating this since it’s not a real episode.

.

* Strange Brew:TAS – #9 – I thought this 5-star adult cartoon series was over?!?! Well, we found one unwatched episode, and watched it! Bob & Doug MacKenzie are great characters; this series was morbidly dark at times, and really should have continued longer.

.

* Titan Maximum – From the makers of Robot Chicken. Clint:  4/5 stars, 7.4/10 (a high 7)  / Carolyn: 4/5 stars, 8/10. Click show name for detailed review.

.

* Where My Dogs At? – MTV presents a Snoop Dog cartoon so “controversial” that CNN had articles about the fuss it caused. Apparently you can’t show girls on leashes if they are black. Not that Snoop Dog minded.  Clint: 4/5 stars, 8/10.  Carolyn: 4(upgraded from 3.6)/5 stars, 8(upgraded from 7)/10. Click show name for detailed review.

CARTOONS, COMEDY, RECENTLY AIRING: COMMENTARY EPISODES:

* Moral Orel – #32,#42,#43 – video commentary/dvd extra versions that are 3X as long. Very interesting stuff. This series is perhaps the most incisive satire of evangelism to ever grace the claymation world. Dino Stamatapolous is one twisted motherfucker.

.

* Xavier:Renegade Angel – dvd commentary for 4 eps – #1 had amazing commentary! I knew this show was philosophical, but when the dots are connected and laid out before me in a brilliant audiocommentary, it shows a whole ‘nother level to the show that I hadn’t even explored, acknowledged, or perceived! I still think this is one of the most FUCKED UP shows in all existence, and also one of the most mentally challenging shows to watch, which requires the most intelligence, wit, and mental speed to keep up with. Another one of the commentaries just made no sense and was a suck-fest. The other 2 were pretty good. We also watched the live-action Cinemash clip with Will Arnett. This show is in my top 10 most fucked up shows ever watched in my life.

.

CARTOONS, COMEDY: PILOTS/ONE-OFFS:

* PILOT: Fugget About It – Clint: 4/5 stars, 7/10. Carolyn: 3/5 stars, 7/10 … Murder, violence, extortion, in a family cartoon. Reminds me of Delocated by PFFR, in the sense of: Ridiculous witness protection basis for series. And the uncle they were supposed to wack? He lives with them now, and he seems to basically be John Waters! And the mean 3rd grade redhead daughter, who still keeps trying to convince them to wack him? Hilarious. School subplots with mobster kids? Also hilarious. I’d watch 80 episodes of these, if I could.  John The Canadien disagreed, rating it only 5/10. (But he’s a harsher critic.) Rob Sch rated it 8/10.

.

* PILOT: Hair Balls (2000) – Suggested by Compn. I thought this was going to be a kid cartoon about cats, but then all the profanity and death kinda made me realize this was an adult cartoon that was never picked up. Slacker Cats kind of filled the void that was created by this not being picked up. It definitely would have gotten funnier if they’d gone on to have a whole series. Clint: 3.6/5 stars, 7/10. Carolyn: 3/5 stars, 6/10.

.

* PILOT: Neon Knome (PFFR) – 5/5 stars, 10/10 from both of us. Frickin’ awesome, insane, psychedelic, PFFR (Wonder Showzen, Xavier:Renegade Angel, Delocated, Final Flesh) always astounds me. They make television like no one else ever has before. This was like Xavier meets Superjail meets Code Monkeys meets Alf. John The Canadian & Rob Sch saw this and both only gave it 7/10.

.

* PILOT: Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD-TAS (3min) – Badly put-together but awesome-looking failed Troma pilot, based on the Troma movie of the same name. Well, at least we got the Toxic Crusaders cartoon. But this wasn’t that great at all. It was actually “psychotically hard to follow”. Clint: 3/5 stars, 7/10. Carolyn: 2.6/5 stars, 5/10.

.

* +SPECIAL: Kung Fu Holiday: Holiday Special (Christmas): Weird dream sequence, worst.game.ever, full of heart ending. Clint: 3/5 stars, 7/10, Carolyn: 3/5 stars, 6/10. If only every holiday special could be awesome animation based on a movie I recently saw… Oh wait:

.

* +SPECIAL: Shrek: Halloween: Scared Shrekless – Not the original voices, but still, more awesome-looking Shrek. Which isn’t to say it was well-written or anything. 3/5 stars, 6.6/10.

.

* ONE-OFF: Brad Neely special China, IL – The Funeral – (11min) Wow, that was weird. Tom Goes To The Mayor frame rate animation, but in a more drawy style. Strange songs mixed in with a strange plot. I liked it a lot. Clint: 4/5 stars, 7.5/10, Carolyn: 3/5 stars, 6.6/10.

.

* ONE-OFF: Freaknik The Musical – (45min) It was alright. Not quite our thing. Clint: 3/5 stars, 5.5/10. CarolyN: 3/5 stars, 6/10..

.

* ONE-OFF: Iranian Suicide Cartoon: Honestly… Not completely unreasonable from their viewpoint. Very poor cartoon though. They all looked the same, haha! But that’s because of poor animation, not because of racism :) Clint: 2.6/5 stars, 4/10. Carolyn: 2/5 stars, 4/10.

CARTOONS, COMEDY, 1990s:

* Beavis & Butt-head – 2005 video music awards, 1997 press conference shorts – Between the 2, that’s almost 9 minutes of unseen B&B! Pretty good for a show that’s been dead for over a decade.  But wait! THE SHOW IS COMING BACK WITH NEW EPISODES AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. That is the best cartoon news I’ve ever heard in my life.

.

* Mask-TAS, The: Final Appearance – as a guest on Ace Ventura-TAS – 26_S2E13_Have Mask, Will Travel – crossover! hilarious! Butt-hugger. Aliens. They go through a black hole. “It’s like a huge lava lamp, maaan.” CHESTBURSTER! NOOO!! Ace Venture meets Stanley Ipkiss. Two different animated versions of Jim Carrey that don’t quite look alike. The Mask was an awesome series from the 1990s, but we’d never given the Ace Ventura animated series a fair chance, as I was uninterested at the time and never saw the movie until the late 2000s. However, we have since found out that Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show) was involved in Ace Venture:TAS, so we may go back and watch the series just yet. Rating for this episode: Clint: 5/5 stars, 9/10. Carolyn: 5/5 stars, 10/10.

.

* Tiny Toon Adventures – S1E10 [first 2 of 3]. Just to see the Re-Return Of The Toxic Revengerer, or whatever it was. IMDB said this episode was a Toxic Avenger reference, so we watched it. Sadly, it was not a real Toxic Avenger reference. Just a name reference. I wanted more. I am disappoint. 2/5 stars, 5/10.

.

* Toxic Crusaders –  Clint: 4/5 stars, 8/10.  Carolyn: 4/5 stars, 7/10. The campiness is actually why it’s good, in this case. Like Troma in general. They do badgood so well.  This is more or less the exact same series as the Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes animated series, which we are big fans of (and have action figures from). Click show name for more detailed review.

CARTOONS, COMEDY, OLD:

* Popeye – Leave Well Enough Alone (1939). Uh, wow. Was that racist? I’m gonna say yes. No spinach either? That’s rare. No wonder we never saw this. I’m thinking it was banned from normal syndication. It’s not overly racist, but I can’t help but find the entire thing to be the most racist Popeye other than “You’re A Sap, Mr. Jap”. For this one ep, 5/5 stars, 8/10.

.

.

.

.

.

.

CARTOONS, SCI-FI/ACTION/SUPERHERO:

* +Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes: 20 ep micro-series debut (which actually ruins the beginning episodes, and should be skipped), plus the 1st season (which continues on into 2011). This show is awesome! This is the best superhero show of the year. Plenty o’ Iron Man, too.  Clint: 5/5 stars, 9/10.

.

* +Star Wars:The Clone Wars – 3/5 stars, 7/10. Continues to be an overall disappointment, but the watching experience is greatly improved if you let the episodes queue up and watch 3 or 4 at a time. They are more interesting with less time between them. Such measures are not needed to enjoy most shows. The cool thing about this season is that there are a lot of stories that don’t involve Annakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kinobi at all, so we get to explore some other characters more deeply. And there’s definitely DEATH in this series, but not as much as there should be. This could have been much better.

.

* +Batman: The Brave And The Bold – 4.2/5 stars, 8/10. S2 definitely seems better than S1, which was kind of a joke. Season 1 was rushed, inconsistent, juvenile, and appeared to suffer from licensing issues by virtue of using villians who were copies of other known villains. Season 1 was the poorest animated Batman implementation since Superfriends. Yet, we’re glad we trundled through season 1 and continued to season 2, because season 2 is a *marked* improvement. There’s a lot of humor in some of these episodes that is not present in any of the other series. Batman smiles a lot more too (which makes it less special, but it’s been so rare in the past that you learn to appreciate it). The villains improve. Aqua Man is hilarious. They have a musical episode. They have a morbid episode where Batman actually dies so many times in a row that he begs for it to be permanent. They have episodes from different timelines. Each episode is unique; you never know what to expect. Award: Most improved series that we watch.

.

* Black Panther – 4/5 stars, 8/10. Another solid Marvel comic-based animation. Click showname for detailed review.

.

* G.I. Joe Renegades – Very interesting, a G.I. Joe reboot that adds the influences of The A Team to the G.I. Joe universe. Only watched the first few episodes so far, but this might actually be good. Estimated rating so far: 3/5 stars, 7/10.

.

* +Sym-Bionic Titan: Directed by Gennedy Tartakovski (Dexter’s Lab, Samurai Jack), so you know the animation’s gonna be quality. Started off lame, but got really good by episode 3 or 4. Recommendation: Push yourself through the first 5 episodes, even if you don’t like them. While completely derivative of several different things (including Voltron), you never quite know what to expect. The series grows on you, and Brian Posehn’s voice is a welcome addition. Some of the action sequences are amazing, like the craziest car chase I’ve ever seen. One that gave the Speed Racer Wachowski Brothers movie a run for its money!  4/5 stars, 7/10.

.

* Terminator Salvation: The Machinima Series. Generic pass: 3/5 stars, 6/10. The story was passable, the CGI was passable. Nothing was special about this at all, but it was still a nice CGI mini-traipse (60 minutes) into the post-Judgment Day Terminator world.

.

* +Transformers Prime – (5 ep intro mini-series) – Clint: 3/5 stars, 5/10. Carolyn: 4/5 stars, 8/10. Clint apparently got pissed off at this one, to rate it so low compared to Carolyn. It’s interesting, but they bungled so much of the canon on purpose that it’s not even like it’s the same Transformers. Bumblebee is not a Volkswagon Bug but is a Camaro like in the movie; doesn’t talk, but does R2-D2 stuff that only ONE kid (the runt geek) can inexplicably understand. Arcee is a main character, but she is not pink. Prime & Megatron‘s voice are the same guys as the original series, but now Megatron‘s a plane. A fucking plane. Soundwave’s not a boombox. Decepticons can be cars, but mostly are just hive-mind robot redshirts that get destroyed like mindless zombies. They don’t even have names — just tons of nameless “transformers” that may as well be the droids in Star Wars, and don’t even fucking transform. There’s Unicron’s Blood, which is like an anti-Spark, and can resurrect a dead Transformer into a zombie transformer. There’s THREE kid characters now, and Spike from the original series was cooler than all of them. This 5-episode mini-series to spark the new series coming out next year leaves a bit to be desired.

.

* +1-SHOT: Green Arrow (DC Showcase Presents Green Arrow) – a one-off 11-minute Greg Weisman (Gargoyles, Spectacular Spider-Man)-written Green Arrow fight. Short but sweet. 4/5 stars, 8/10.

CARTOONS, ANIME:

* Higurashi aka When They Cry / Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni / Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai / Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Rei – 5/5 stars, 9/10 from both of us. THIS IS AN AMAZING ANIME SERIES. BEST ANIME WATCHED THIS YEAR. This absolutely blew our mind to watch both seasons and the 5 OVAs. This is almost Twin Peaks level in its interconnected strangeness. Click showname for complete review.

.

* +Iron Man (2010) (anime) – The Japanese Iron Man animated series. He fights zodiac badguys. 13 episodes, but for some reason we never got to see the last one. Iron Man is definitely different when he’s visiting Japan and talking Japanese. But he’s still the same womanizing arrogant hotshot that he is in the Avengers 2010 animated series, in the Iron Man 1990s animated series, and in the movies. It’s hard to go wrong with Iron Man, and this is more Iron Man! 4/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +Planetes – 4/5 stars, 8/10. Great futuristic anime about space garbage collectors. Surprisingly political, while still primarily focusing on character growth. Very scientifically accurate — Thanks to Ryan S for this one!  Click showname for detailed review.

.

* Super Milk Chan: Americanized 2nd Dubs – rewatched entire series – 5/5 stars, 9/10. Wow, this was as funny as I remembered it! I’d totally forgotten about the live-action parts with the ADV voice actors, and how they made the watching experience that much more surreal. These localized/Americanized 2nd dubs make the show funny, whereas the original dubs are not nearly as funny. This makes this a remix show, along the lines [but not quite the same method] as SeaLab 2021 or Space Ghost Cost To Coast or Ghost Stories. Ghost Stories is another anime that ADV re-wrote the dialog for, making it funnier than the original. We’re watching it in 2011 and it will be reviewed next year.

LIVE-ACTION, COMEDY:

* Check It Out With Steve Brule – a Tim And Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! John C. Reilly spin-off!! Wow!! Still haven’t finished the first season yet, because this is Grade A prime awkward live-action AdultSwim fake-public-access fake-VHS-looking off-the-wall strange, odd, weird shit. Best viewed with company while drinking. 5/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* +Kenny Vs. Spenny – Christmas Special – Nice to get to see a new one, double length even, now that the series is on haitus. Poor Spenny. 4/5 stars, 8/10.

.

* Kids In The Hall: Death Comes To Town – 5/5 stars (Carolyn said 4). 8/10. The kids are back, and while they aren’t quite as funny when not doing sketch comedy, they can sure make a unique 8-episode mini-series that gets funnier and funnier as you progress through it.. Click showname for detailed review.

.

* Look Around You – Fake science documentaries. It’s a bit hard to realize these are comedies at first, until they start talking about ridiculous things that can’t possibly be true. The whole series is completely deadpan. We’ve only watched 1 or 2 episodes with Mark — but we plan on watching more. This was apparently on AdultSwim, even though it’s live action. Rating so far: 3/5 stars, 7/10.

.

* Shit My Dad Says – #1: That was kinda bad for what it could have been. Some laughs, but wow, just trying sooo hard. ABC? Been dead to me for soooo many years, and this doesn’t change my opinion of that. It only reaffirms my Network mantra: “if it’s not Fox, it’s dead” (pre-Friends finale I used to say “if it’s not Fox or NBC, it’s dead”).  John The Canadien has a point–this would probably be funny of it was an HBO or Showtime show, but not ABC. Fuck ABC. 2/5 stars, 4/10 from Clint, 5/10 from Carolyn. Please cancel this! WORST LIVE SERIES OF THE YEAR.

.

* +Sarah Silverman Program – 5-star hilarity as usual! They need longer seasons, damnit! We also watched some DVD extras from my sister’s DVD collection.

.

* Spaced (UK) – 4/5 stars. 7.8/10 from Clint, 9/10 from Carolyn. I’m glad I watched this — it’s great to see Simon Pegg before he was famous in America. This series was, however, not as funny as I was expecting, and certainly not epic. It was very short, something you can get through in two nights. I’d have liked more. Click showname for detailed review.

.

* +Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! – Season 5, Chrimbus special, Season 3 dvd extras, and of course the Chrimbus live tour. So sad to see this series reach its conclusion. 5/5 stars, 10/10 – I want this series to go on, forever, non-stop, forever!

.

* +Office, The – All new eps, as well as the DVD audiocommentary commentary for episodes #57,58,61,65, and tons of dvd extras. Doesn’t quite seem as funny this year, but still quite good. 5/5 stars, 8/10, but trending toward 7/10. Maybe like 7.6/10.

.

* +Warren The Ape – Clint: 3.4/5 stars, 7/10. The 4th show related to Greg The Bunny! First we had the original Greg The Bunny public access, then the Fox series, the IFC shorts series, and now this MTV spinoff series. It’s all about Warren the ape’s attempted recovery from alcoholism and womanizing and partying. The humor alternates between annoying/grating/”he’s an asshole” humor, to messed up, tragic endings that would be sad if they did not take place in a fictional live-action america where puppets — err, fabricated americans — are alive.

LIVE-ACTION, COMEDY: PILOTS/SPECIALS/ONE-OFFS:

* PILOT: Beat Cops H. Jon Benjamin (Ben from Dr. Katz, Couch McGuirk from Home Movies, Bob from Bob’s Burgers, Archer from Archer) is hilarious. Sam Seder, of Home Movies and I’m With Busey also has potential. Unfortunately, this pilot just wasn’t nearly as funny as it could have been. Instead of having these two comical cops interfacing with the public, they mostly just talked to each other. It was a fail. 3/5 stars, 6/10. Generic pass. John The Canadien’s review: http://igottarambleon.wordpress.com/2010/08/16/beat-cops/

.

* PILOT: Duckworth (AdultSwim) – 2/5 stars, 5/10. Moments of funniness, like sketch comedy with slightly inter-related scenes. The best part was the guy using the Washington Monument picture to ‘poke’ the Statue Of Liberty picture. (“And a little bit in the mouth.”) Eli Duckworth (the fictional character this pilot was based on) was a show host for 43 years, now senile. They had to force him out of his retirement party, then tase him when he tried to stab random people in the lobby from his senility. Still had some funny moments, but overall not that great. Still a bit twisted, but not redeeming enough.

.

* PILOT: Increasingly Bad Decisions Of Todd Margaret, The David Cross and a bit of Will Arnett in a cringe comedy taking place in the UK? Lots of profanity… Good stuff. Rate the pilot: 4/5 stars, 7/10. This was picked up for a full season, which we will be watching in 2011.

.

* +PILOT: This Show Will Get You High: A few known lesser comedians, like Gemberling from Fat Guy Stuck In Internet. Some funny stand-up clips. Some decent sketches. Could have been better, but was still pretty good for some random shit thrown together.  Clint: 4/5 stars, 7/10. Carolyn: 3/5 stars, 7/10. John The Canadien’s review is here.

20100612 - Food Party in Baltimore - 3 - Derrick Beckles (Totally For Teens), Clint - IMG_0990

Derreck Beckles, creator of Totally For Teens, at Food Party event in Baltimore

* PILOT: Totally For Teens 5/5 stars, 10/10 – WATCHED THREE TIMES, including a huge group watching with tons of hipster strangers at an art collective in Baltimore. AdultSwim brings us a fake for-teens show that reminds me of Tim And Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! meets Wonder Showzen. When we saw this “live”, we got to meet creator Derrick Beckles.

.

* PILOT: UltraBlue Tim And Eric quality fake PSA, 5/5 stars, 9/10. If this was a product, I’d buy it! We all need UltraBlue in our lives!

.

* PILOT: Yappy Broads #1-#2 – Talk show parody with real guests, starring men in drag. Dino Stamatapoulous (creator of Moral Orel), Tommy Blacha (Dethklok, Mongo Wrestling Alliance)… and Corey Feldman as a guest in #1! He talked about breaking up with Corey Haim. Is that why Haim later OD’d? 4/5 stars, 7/10. 6/10 from John The Canadien.

.

* SPECIAL: Borat – The Best Of Borat – an hour of hilarious Borat footage from the Ali G show. It was no Borat movie, though. Clint: 4/5 stars, IMDB 8/10. Carolyn: IMDB: 7/10.

.

* SPECIAL: MTV’s 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 MTV Movie Awards – we just watched the various comedic celebrity skits from each of these. Felt like catching up on missed pop culture. Some of those skits were pretty damn funny. A lot involved various celebrities we like seeing.

LIVE-ACTION, COMEDY: VIDEO PODCASTS:

* Pot Psychology – All new episodes. Hilarious stuff, but I’m sad that they went on hiatus. 5/5 stars, 9/10.

.

* Zach Galafianakis: Between Two Ferns – OH MY GOD these are maybe the funniest thing he’s ever done! 5/5 stars, 10/10.

LIVE-ACTION, NON-COMEDY:

* +24 – noooo! it’s over! No, wait. Actually, it was time for it to be over. Now that’s over, we give an overall rating for all 8 seasons: 5/5 stars, 9/10. Though Clint would rate the 2 worst seasons 8/10. This season was NOT one of the 2 worst seasons; they ended up an upswing, going out on a good note. This season had less bullshit than the last two put together.

.

* +Dead Set: Finally, a zombie SERIES!!!!!! YES!!!! Clint: 5/5 stars, 9/10. Carolyn: 4/5 stars, 8.4/10. John The Canadien: 4/5  stars, 9/10. Two Beans: 4/5 beans. Click showname for detailed review.

.

* +Breaking Bad – Like Weeds, but with a man making meth instead of a woman growing weed. Malcolm In The Middle‘s dad as a dying meth cook == teh awesome. 5/5 stars, 9/10. YES, THIS SHOW IS JUST LIKE WEEDS.

.

* +Heroes + Heroes Unmasked (dvd extra documentaries, 1 per ep) – Fuck the haters, I love Heroes and want to see more. So it suuuuucks that it’s being canceled! Sure, Mr. Carnival Man In Eyeliner turned out to be a disappointing climax for the season, but there were other subplots and character developments happening that we would have liked to have seen continue! 5/5 stars, 7.6/10 because it still wasn’t the best season.

.

* +Nip/Tuck – 5/5 stars (4 for Carolyn), 8/10. Great series, with lots of ridiculous fiction based on the ridiculous non-fiction of real life. Click showname for very detailed review, including synopsis of each season’s developments (Great to read if you watched, but forgot, the series).

.

* + V: The awesome 1980’s series re-done for modern times? Awesome! Okay, it’s not as good as it could be, actually. But still awesome. 4/5 stars, 7/10.

.

* +Walking Dead, The: Finally, a zombie SERIES!!!!!! YES!!!! Got all the issues of the comics too :) Unlike Dead Set, this series is actually continuing for more than 6 episodes (and more than 1 season). Since the comic book is up past issue #70 or so, there should be plenty of material to keep this series going. 5/5 stars, 9/10.

.

* 1-SHOT: TeenVid Vol. 2: video magazine from 1991, featuring Debbie Gibson, Milla Jovovich, Marky Mark, Vanilla Ice. At 39 minutes, this was too much of a pile of shit to actually watch straight through. But we did spend 10 or so minutes scanning through it and watching certain parts. Man, that was some funny, dated shit. Don’t drink and drive, or you’ll think you’re bowling! Marky Mark has a tough life! Milla talks about her music career, but last I checked, she just smokes pot and kills zombies. Debbie Gibson isn’t as good looking as I remembered, and talks about working on her vocal skills every day. How’d that work out for you, Debbie? Fight any gatorsaurs with that voice? What about mega-crocodiles? Hilarious stuff. I wish something this awful and topically dated came out EVERY year, so I could laugh this hard EVERY year. (Not rated by us, due to weirdness.)

DOCUMENTARY: MOVIES:

* Borat – Storyville (BBC) (1hr) – 3/5 stars, 7/10. Wow. Kinda depressing. The town of Glod (“Mud”), Romania, was what Borat used as his hometown for the movie. Very depressing economics and people there. The townspeople tried to sue for how they were taken advantage of, and the main guy ended up having a heart attack [survived] from the stress of coming back and having all the townspeople think that he won the lawsuit and kept the money for himself. The Borat movie definitely hurt the people of that village’s dignity. Of course, one could argue that’s part of what makes it so funny. But in the context of this documentary, it was just sad. I still wouldn’t change the past, though.

DOCUMENTARY: MUSIC:

* Classic Albums – Black Sabbath – Paranoid (2010) (54m46s) – I don’t even own this album, but I own the double-CD compilation that includes a lot of Paranoid. They only talked about 1 song I didn’t already know, so that worked out.. Excellent stuff. Though I wish Henry Rollins wasn’t part of this documentary. Fuck him and his goddamn neck.

MUSIC: NON-MUSIC VIDEO:

* Gwar – Christmas With Gwar (2010) (3m3s) – awesome lil’ xmas card with Gwar singing carols on “random” peoples’ lawns

* Tryptikon interviews (9min) – Celtic Frost founder has moved on to his 3rd band, Tryptikon.

MUSIC VIDEOS: FULL LENGTH:

* MTV – Saturday Morning Cartoons’ Greatest Hits – Wow! After listening to the 19-track album for 15+ yrs, we finally get to see videos for every song [except Frente:Let The Sunshine In, which only featured Flinstones clips]. They had a whole plot around a group of 20-somethings finding something ‘wrong’ with the TV and watching these ‘cartoons’, which are really the music videos for every song from the album. Drew Barrymore is the main one. During Face 2 Face’s Popeye theme, she said something like, “If there was one green substance to base my life around, it wouldn’t be spinach.” Unfortunately they also did a little bit of commentary over the actual music videos, during the “slow” parts. But only 10 seconds per song or so. This was one of our major drinking & partying albums back in the college days, it sat in our 12-disc cd changer for years. So great to finally see this video 15 years after it was created. Really good sound quality for a 15-year-old VHS encode. 5/5 stars, 9/10 (highly rated due to nostalgia, but only 9/10 because of the talking over the videos, and a couple of the videos being a bit weak, like Frente! and Rev. Horton Heat, and the Fat Albert theme being omitted).

.

* MTV – Schoolhouse Rock Rocks – Wow! After listening to the album for 15+ yrs, we finally get to see videos for most every song. We’ve always considered this album the unofficial companion album to Saturday Morning Cartoon’s Greatest Hits. And apparently we were on to something, because MTV made video specials for both albums, and we managed to snag a copy of both of these during the same year (2010, 15 years later!).  It’s amazing that torrents for 15 year old MTV videos both became available in the past year. You can’t buy this stuff! (Well, you can buy the album, but not the video!)  5/5 stars, 9/10 (same reason as the previous video!).

MUSIC VIDEOS: SONGS:

* Black Moth Super Rainbow – Tooth Decay – only watched this because PFFR (Wonder Showzen, Xavier:Renegade Angel, Delocated, Final Flesh) produced this. Very trippy once the 2 skulls meet!

* Coroner – lots and lots. Too bad the reunion show in Maryland is some festival that costs $100 to go to.

* D.R.I. – lots and lots, warming up for the concert

* Helloween – Dr. Stein (2010 different version) (4m4s) – What. The. Fuck. They covered their OWN song, in a weird saxophone/piano/cheesy/awful style. That’s really bizarre. Really fucking bizarre. Thanks, Sean R.

* Michael Jackson – Beat It (Communist Party Version) – not that good, actually… except the solo. 3/10

* Mr. Bungle – excellent fan-made Pink Cigarette video. VERY good video, goes toe to toe with any real video.

* +Muppets – Bohemian Rhapsody. In 1080p, no less!

* Phoebe Legere – La Vie En Rose (live) (The After Dark Show) (2m58s) – Yup. She’s about as crazy as she is in the Toxic Avenger 2 & 3 movies, where she plays Toxie’s girlfriend — and about as grating as the cartoon character in Toxic Crusaders that was based on her, which made her quit her business association with Troma because she found her character too offensive for children.

* Slayer – piano covers (Seasons In The Abyss, Raining Blood) – These songs sound great even on a piano!

* They Might Be Giants – Birdhouse In Your Soul (Literal Video Version) – friggin’ awesome

* Tim And Eric Eric Wareheim directed music video – Health – We Are Water – wtf? That was weird. That didn’t have anything to do with health OR water.

.

.

.

.

SHORTS:

* Acid Skull (1969) – wow, a 10 minute 1960s acid-porn short? Very cool, they don’t make softcore porn OR acid trip shorts like this anymore.

.

* Airplane 1 Vs. Zero Hour (7min) – Comparison of the movie Airplane to the movie it was based on. Hilarious how the original movie wasn’t a comedy, and they saw that it was funny, and spoofed it into Airplane!, one of the funniest movies ever!

.

* Wall-E: Burn-E (7min animation Wall-E-related featurette)

.

* Cat With Hands, The – wtf, that wasn’t a kitties video! that was pretty damn creepy, actually! WTF!

.

* cats – Team Fortress cats – WTF!

.

* Christmas: Christmas lights – Slayer – Raining Blood (2009) (3m44s) – FRICKIN’ AMAZING!!!!!

.

* Christmas: Christmas Comes But Once A Year – old 50sish xmas toon on the Toxic Crusaders dvd extras. Why is this here??? This was a mistake to watch. This is like Public Domain b.s.

.

* Christmas: Brightest Nights – old 50sish xmas live-action / stop-motion [well, hardly any motion actually. more like just “stop”] on the Toxic Crusaders dvd extras. Why is this here??? This was a mistake to watch. This is like Public Domain b.s.

.

* Drunk History – Nikola Tesla (5m36s) (John C. Riley, Crispin Glover) – Saw parts of it in the hotel room during Vicky & Ryan’s wedding weekend, and then all of a sudden Slashdot and other infosources were all talkin’ about it. Pretty cool. And funny. 5/5 stars, 9/10.

.

* Evil Dead In 60 Seconds – great movie, easily summarized

.

* guy builds his own instrument and does amazing things with it – pvc pipes – somewhere between an organ & a drum (6m2s) – frickin’ amazing!!!

.

* Henry And Glenn Forever – 2010 X-Mas Special (5min) – a great advertisement for the Henry & Glenn Forever graphic novel, a booklet featuring comics about Henry Rollins and Glenn Danzig, if they were gay lovers. Seeing this in animated form was awesome. This really should be a series!

.

* +Horribly Slow Murderer With The Extremely Inefficient Weapon, The (2008) (10m16s) – Clint: 5/5 stars, 8.4/10. Carolyn: 2/5 stars, 6/10. “It drew on a little bit too long. I know that’s the point, but I think they could have gotten their point across without drawing it out so much. Too tedious. A lot of filler.” I disagree, however! Best worst-trailer-ever ever!

.

* Jonny Quest – parody – Toby Danger – Doomsday Bet (from Modemac) (8.5min) – Yea, this was amazing! Halfway between Jonny Quest and The Venture Bros. :)

.

* Logorama – Oscar-award winning 16min short containing a metric fuckton of Logos. Pretty sweet visual flair with lots of action and death; Ronald McDonald being the main bad guy, chased down by Michelin Man cops. As a bonus, I finally get to hear more of the song “I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire” than I’ve ever heard before [it’s at the beginning of the Megadeth song Set The World Afire]. Clint: 5/5 stars, 8.4/10.  Carolyn: 4/5 stars, 7.6/10.

.

* Maximum Overdrive In 3 Minutes – Carolyn hasn’t seen this, I have. So I made her watch this. I also got a copy of the movie and made her watch the Yardley Smith (Lisa Simpson’s voice actor) scenes.

.

* Matrix Trilogy In 6 Minutes – Wow. so much to cover. I’d like to see this done with 12 minutes. I think it would be a bit more comprehensive.

.

* Matrix/Big Lebowski Mash-up – That was alright. Midly amusing. 3/5 stars, 6/10.

.

* Michael Showalter Showalter With Paul Rudd, The (5min) – Funny, not super special.

.

* Pixels by Patrick Jean – awesome eye candy, Atari attacks New York!

.

* Rocky Horror – parody – Touch-a Touch Me – TSA Security (3m14s) – If you love Rocky Horror and hate the TSA, this video is for you!

.

* Star Trek bloopers

.

* Star Wars – The Empire Strikes Back – 1950 premakes version (2m54s) – If The Empire Strikes Back was made in the 1950s, it may have looked like this.

.

* Strange Brew-TASThe Adventures Of Bob & Doug MacKenzie – The 12 Days Of Christmas – a 3-minute song we watched during Christmas season. Pretty good. This came out BEFORE the series came out, so it included a preview of the “upcoming” series. Of course we’ve already watched all 12 eps of Bob & Doug, and it’s all pretty great stuff.

.

* Super Mario Bros. Curb (7min) – amazing how much work must have been put into doing that, into taking the live-action curve shot and panning along in sync to the Mario speed run they used for it. Really neat eye candy.

.

* Terry Gilliam – The Miracle Of Flight (1974) (5min) – That was okay. Kind of pointless. Funny and weird at points, but definitely not Gilliam’s best. 3/5 stars, 6/10.

.

* Twilight Vs. Blade – Alright, but not really that funny.

.

* Wilhelm Scream – 2010 Compilation incl The Venture Bros., Drawn Together, more modern movies (3m52s) — wow… I’ve seen almost every one of these movies – way better than the original montage, almost all new movies and shows.
