THE BASIC SUMMARY: Our real estate assessment went up again, from $307.1K to $315.9K. A 2.85% increase (house went up 3%, land went up 2.7%), which is less than the average of 5.8% yearly gains, and slightly less than last year’s 3% increase. Our house value increased $730 a month (and our mortgage is only $1025 now that we refinanced).
In 1999, we bought the house at $141K.
In 2000, we were assessed at $142K.
In 2001, this grew by 3.5% to $147K.
In 2002, this grew by 39% to $205K.
In 2003, this grew by 3% to $211K.
In 2004, this grew by 24% to $261K.
In 2005, this grew by 34% to $349K.
In 2006, this grew by 13% to $395K. [addition basically complete]
In 2007, this grew by 3% to $406K (peak)
In 2008, this dropped by 7% to $375K. [addition officially complete]
In 2009, this dropped by 3% to $364K.
In 2010, this dropped by 18% to $298K. (ouch)
In 2011, this grew by 3% to $307K. Finally a gain!
In 2012, this grew by ~3% to $316K.
We’re 22% down from our peak (but not 37% like 2 years ago), and it’s still worth 2.32X (2011=2.27X) more than we owe on the mortgage (which is $136.1K, actually about $700 more than last year due to rolling our refinance costs into the mortgage).
This means we’re still $179.8K ahead (2011=$171.7K, 2010=$163K). We’ve lived here 12 years, so that’s $14,903 (2011=$15,609) ahead each year, $1249 (2011=$1300) ahead each month. Our mortgage is down to $1025 from $1300 (refinanced), so this place seems to practically be paying for itself.
(Of course, the addition wasn’t free, it was about $80K, so we’re really only $99.8K ahead ($91.7K in 2011), or only $8,317 ($8,336 in 2011) ahead per year, $693 ($694 in 2011) ahead each month. Still not shabby. These people who say houses aren’t a good investment don’t know what they’re talking about. Even if it’s value drops 90%, you’re still getting 10% more of your money back than if you were renting! And we’re sure as hell doing better than dropping 90%!)
FOOTNOTE: 2006 was about when the construction was mostly finished, but due to problems with it being completely finished, it might not have been legally counted as finished until 2008.
RANDOM NOTE: The Google Chart Playground is very, very useful. Saves a lot of manual page refreshses…

Yup. If you are a 17 year old passenger in a car that sideswipes an off duty cop, the cop can chase you down, fire indiscriminately in a car full of 5 teenagers, and NOT GET CHARGED FOR SHOOTING YOU AND PUTTING YOU IN THE HOSPITAL IN CRITICAL CONDITION.
Is it any wonder people don’t respect american authority? American authority does not submit to law. They are simply thugs who do what they want — and the system lets them, which is why they do it.
No charges. For shooting an unarmed teenage passenger in the back after chasing down their car in road rage. The officer is not even named. Fucking ridiculous.
John The Canadien’s blogpost about hanging out with me & Carolyn & Mark I on Friday night, wherein we watched 2-3 hrs of TV (episodes reviewed within).
QUIRKS: Stalky geekism… Sandra Bullock is kind of manic and scary in this movie. She thinks everything is a bit too special.
VISUALS:Sandra Bullock does NOT look as good as a halfway-between-blonde-and-brunette. I always prefer stark looks, and indecisive hair colors are NOT stark.
MORALS: If you are a stalker, everyone will eventually love you. Okay, that’s not really the moral. The real moral is that weird people should not be ostracized, nor should they change who they are. It’s actually quite a good moral.
BAD STUFF: It’s a romantic comedy. Although it does break formula.
CONCLUSION/RECOMMENDATION: If you can’t find another comedy to watch, this has it’s moments. It’s nothing great, but it definitely has its moments of brilliance. Deaf children falling into a mineshaft FTW!
RATINGS:
Clint: Netflix: 3/5 stars. IMDB: 6.6/10. (A reluctant 7/10.)
Carolyn: Netflix: 3/5 stars. IMDB: 7/10.
The native public rating for this movie is: IMDB: only 4.9/10, Netflix: 3.1/5 stars (Netflix‘s predicted rating for us was 3.2/5 stars).
MOVIE QUOTE: Mary Horowitz: It’s like taking 10 friends on a camping trip. [This is why she likes wearing boots… Wow.]
COINCIDENCES: (All About Steve, Flapjack #13A) 2 videos in the same night with the song “I Will Follow Him” by Peggy March (though Flapjack’s was a parody). First coincidence of 2010.
Wow. This is really disturbing and sad. To have to call 911 AFTER shooting yourself in the head. Wow. You gotta love how the cops come in and the first thing they’re concerned about is that he not move his hands (cause they’d probably shoot him). This is a painful 911 call to listen to.
Seems like a month can’t go by without hearing about some new evil foisted on the world by Cathlocism, in the name of their fictitious sky fairy.
Can we say — Christian-sponsored mass-murder of Native American children?
Not only did it happen in America by Papal Decree from the Catholic Pope centuries ago, but it happened in Canada, set up by the Anglican Church.
Now add up the 100000+ babies stolen in Spain by Catholicism — and the sexual abuse of so many people that phone lines set up in support are overrun by calls…
…Yeah, religion is bullshit. A giant fairy in the sky threatening to burn people if they do wrong is not a proper motivator for a functional society.
The Queen of England picking 10 children who were never seen again? Then a guy who has testimony against her mysteriously gets murdered? A rack? They were using an actual rack for torture, possibly as late as 1970? UK denied entry to people who were going to testify in the Tribunal, so they had to move it to another country?
A review of 7 shows we watched with John The Canadien last Friday… Plus talk on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and the song that got Clint into the band Coroner.

[IMDB link] [Netflix link] Most people didn’t like this — 3.7 on IMDB?!?! I think it’s the use of children in a comedy. It’s a taboo.
PLOT SUMMARY: Negligent school with asshole principal is going to be shut down within a day — unless the powerless non-tenured vice principal can save it.
UNCOMFORTABLE PLOT SUMMARY (inspired by this): [highlight for spoilers]→Embezzling principal tries to sell childrens’ future.
There’s also a bunch of minor actors I’ve seen in various spoof and comedy movies, but I’m not going to list them all. You have IMDB for that.
QUIRKS: Crazy random drug use on Eva Longoria‘s part really added some random comedy, but what really made this movie was the children being used in subversive ways, being made to be personal servants to the evil principal, being cussed at by negligent teachers. Usually I can’t stand any movie with kids in it, and would prefer movies to have no children. This movie, however, actually used children in a way I like: subversively. That aspect reminds me of Wonder Showzen.
Was that a montage at the beginning?
BAD STUFF: A lot of people hated this movie, and claimed it was one of the worst movies they’ve ever seen. But 12% gave this movie a 10/10 on IMDB too. And the next 20% gave it 6-9/10. So obviously not everyone feels the hate. However, a whopping 46% rated this only 1-3/10. If you’re uptight and love children, you might not want to watch this.
CONCLUSION: A great comedy movie for those who hate school, aren’t fond of children, and enjoy seeing an 8 year old cussed out by a drunk school teacher. Most people hated this movie, but I liked the subversiveness.
RATINGS:
Clint: Netflix: 4/5 stars. IMDB: 8/10.
Carolyn: Netflix: 3/5 stars. IMDB: 6/10. Of course, Carolyn was falling asleep during it, and that always causes me to lower my ratings… So I tend to think she could have enjoyed this more. I almost rated it 5/5 stars.
The native public rating for this movie is: IMDB: an astoundingly low 3.7/10, Netflix: 2.5/5 stars (Netflix‘s predicted rating for us was 3.3/5 stars–It guessed right again).
RECOMMENDATION: People seem to either love this or hate it…. And more seem to hate it. We DESPISE children, and thought it was going to be an awful movie because children started showing up. But it was actually awesome the way they used kids. If you’re subversive, you’ll enjoy seeing a teacher call an elementary school kid a whiny bitch.
SIMILAR MOVIES: The inappropriate use of children makes me think of Wonder Showzen. (more…)
