VIDEO: MOVIES: REVIEW: Police Academy 6: City Under Siege (1989)

Clio: 3/5 stars, 6/10.
Carolyn: 3/5 stars, 6/10.
Native ratings: 3.1/5 stars Netflix, 3.9/10 IMDB.

Hank (the cop) from Breaking Bad AND Chloe from Smallville are both in this movie, though almost nobody (including us) will notice this.

Carolyn’s thoughts: This was more like The Pink Panther about a theft gang on a stealing spree. The team are brought in to help Captain Harris catch the thieves, and then Commandant Lassard is framed so they try to clear his name. Still going.

Clio: Yup. Still going. These Police Academy movies get really unremarkable, but at least this one had a sort of mystery plot to it that the others didn’t have. That helped stave off the rate of decay of the franchise a bit…

Directed by Peter Bonerz (29 eps of Home Improvement, 12 eps of Friends, 11 eps of Wings, 9 eps of Alf, 3 eps of Just Shoot Me, 3 eps of Joey, 2 eps of Newsradio, 2 eps of Shit My Dad Says).

From the last movie:
Matt McCoy (Police Academy 5-6, 4 eps of Carnivale, 2 eps of Seinfeld, 1 ep of Six Feet Under) as Nick, Lassard’s nephew, pretty much Mahoney’s replacement.

New people:
Allison Mack (Chloe Sullivan from Smallville) as Little Girl. This was her film debut.
Dean Norris (Hank the cop/brother-in-law from Breaking Bad) as cop in gym. Not even credited. No, we didn’t notice him.

Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach (1988)

Carolyn’s thoughts: They tried to mix it up a bit by changing the setting and putting them into Miami Beach.  Still the same formula, but entertaining enough.  No mention of what happened to Mahoney.

Claire’s thoughts: Exactly. They’re still doing it… But they’ve lost Steve Guttenberg for good. Strangely… I didn’t really notice. With or without him, it’s pretty much “same shit, different instance”. It works. It’s still working. It’s good that they made this. It’s good that we watched it. But it’s not very special. It’s another episode of The Simpsons at this point. I’m fine with that, but the only reason to watch Police Academy 5 is that you watched Police Academy 1 through 4.

Directed by Alan Myerson (12 eps of Laverne & Shirley, 8 eps of The Larry Sanders Show, 5 eps of Newsradio, The Single Guy, 2 eps of Friends, 2 eps of Ned And Stacey).
Written by Stephen Curwick (Police Academy 5-6, 5 eps of Family Ties, 2 eps of Growing Pains, 1 ep of Who’s The Boss?).

From the last movie:
Tab Thacker (Police Academy 4-5) as House, the fat cadet.

New people:
Matt McCoy (Police Academy 5-6, 4 eps of Carnivale, 2 eps of Seinfeld, 1 ep of Six Feet Under) as Nick, Lassard’s nephew, pretty much Mahoney’s replacement.

VIDEO: MOVIES: REVIEW: Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987)

Claire: 3.2/5 stars, 7/10.
Carolyn: 3/5 stars, 7/10.
Native ratings: 3.2/5 stars Netflix, 4.6/10 IMDB.

Carolyn’s thoughts:  This had a similar scattered feel that the first movie had, but it seemed to have an even looser plot than the other movies.  Basically, this is just the first movie, but with civilians learning to be cops, but not actually get to be cops.  These are definitely starting to wear out their welcome.  This is the last one with Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg) in it.

Claire: Yup, it’s all getting to be a blur. This one’s still absolutely comparable with the first 3, but it’s starting to feel like episodes of a TV series, what with the repetitions, fomulaicness, catch-phrases, etc.

New people:
Sharon Stone as Claire Mattson. So young.
Derek McGrath (Mr. Mom, 4 eps of Cheers, 2 eps of Star Trek: Voyager, 2 eps of Family Matters, 1 ep of Married With Children) as Butterworth.
Billie Bird (Police Academy 4,6, 2 eps of The Wonder Years, 1 ep of Cheers, 1 ep of Max Headroom, 1 ep of Murphy Brown, 1 ep of Who’s The Boss) as Mrs. Feldman. IMDB says she plays Mrs. Stanwyck in Police Academy 6. Same character, different name, or different character altogether? Hmmm.

Jack Creley (Videodrome, Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb, 1 ep of Friday The 13th: The Series) as Judge.
Tony Hawk as a skateboarder. (IMDB trivia says he was fired from being David Spade’s skateboarding double because he was too tall, so apparently, he was just a guy skating with them.)

Missing from this movie, but will be returning:
Bruce Mahler (Police Academy 1-3,6, Fridays, 3 eps of Seinfeld, uncredited in Loaded Weapon 1, uncredited in Dick Tracy) as Doug Fackler.

VIDEO: MOVIES: REVIEW: Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986)

Claire: 3.4/5 stars, 7/10.
Carolyn: 3.4/5 stars, 7/10.
Native ratings: 3.2/5 stars Netflix, 5.0/10 IMDB.

Claire’s thoughts: A good thing was more new characters, and old character in new roles. Bobcat Goldthwait made a hilariously-weird street thug, and now he gets to be a hilariously-weird cop.  Getting to use a character in two roles strikes me as both brilliant AND lazy, which are both hallmarks of good low-budget filmmaking.

Unfortunately, at this point, the franchise is becoming a bit formulaic and repetitive.   Some of the jokes are the same jokes.. Again.   And the jokes just aren’t that funny (in 2014, when I’m writing this) to bear repeating 3 times. Maybe they were in 1986, but they aren’t in 2014.

Carolyn’s thoughts:  This one wasn’t as good as the first 2, but it was still entertaining.

Claire: 4/5 stars, 8/10.
Carolyn: 4/5 stars, 7/10.
Native ratings: 3.5/5 stars Netflix, 6.6/10 IMDB.

They should use Michael Winslow more. But I guess he’ll be back in the other movies.  Wait…That was Kim Catrall??

That was fun. Reminds me of Stripes, but with police instead of military, and funnier.  I grew up on these movies, but I haven’t seen one in over 20 years. All 7 movies finally being available in HD means it’s time to watch them again, and remember what the fuss was about.

Pretty damn funny! Not a cinematic masterpiece, but we both laughed out loud. A lot. The movie was outrageous and out of touch back then, but now it’s even more strange. A relic. And damn, 30 years ago was definitely more homophobic. The movie was a truly a product of its time.

But anyway… The only thing I actually remember from watching this when I was younger… Is the bossy blonde academy instructor, and her tits. DEFINITELY worth returning to.

I’d really forgotten about all these quirky characters. They should make an adult cartoon about these guys.

Carolyn’s thoughts:  This was entertaining and fun.  A little fast-paced, and a little bit scattered, but it got us laughing out loud several times.  I didn’t remember much from when I saw this as a kid.

Directed by Hugh Wilson (2 eps of WKRP In Cincinnati).
Written by Neal Israel (Real Genius, Look Who’s Talking Too), Pat Proft (Scary Movie 3-5, Naked Gun movies, Hot Shots movies, The Star Wars Holiday Special), and Hugh Wilson (33 eps of WKRP In Cincinnati).

THIN BLUE LINE: Florida trooper arrested a cop, then was stalked & harassed by the Thin Blue Line | Police State USA

Apologists apologize for bad cops by saying they’re just a a bad apple — nevermind that the idiom of bad apple actually means “1 bad ruins them all”, because you barrel apples, and 1 bad apple in the barrel ruins every apple. NEVERMIND THAT.

It looks like we finally have a quantifiable ratio of good cop to bad cop — and it looks that the bad cops are well over a 100:1 ratio of the good cops.

This woman dared to arrest a speeder who gave chase for 6 minutes. He was a cop. She had to eventually move away in fear of her life. Gang stalking. It’s a thing. Thin Blue line at work.

The cop she arrested’s name is FAUSTO LOPEZ, AGE 35. He made excuses, then seemingly hid behind the blue line.

Gee, will I get harassed for posting this, Fausto?

FREEDOM: The Police State in Review, 2013

I agree that these stories are far bigger than the bullshit that typically makes the news rounds. This article is far more worthy of being read than the combination of every CNN and Fox News article that comes out over a week.

I had forgotten how police dumped 100+ bullets into multiple vehicles full of complete innocents who did nothing to provoked simply because they were on a bloodhunt for Dorner.

Their names were never even released – That is not democracy or freedom. Government shooting innocents without releasing the name of the people who did it is exactly why every American needs to own a gun. Not a musket. An assault rifle. Not advocating sedition here – but simply put, the power needs to be squarely in the hands of the people.

A government is supposed to fear its people: Thomas Jefferson said this for chrissakes. When people are scared of the govt, it is tyranny.

Very sad article.

Anyone know what happened to Robert Trudell?

THIN BLUE LINE: Officer who put camera in Glen Burnie High bathroom won’t be charged

In a police state, there are two sets of laws. One for “us”, and one for “them”.

If one of “us” were to install a hidden camera into a bathroom at a public high school – We’d go to jail, register as a sex offender, and possibly be forced to live under a highway overpass with no prospects for a job.

But if a cop does it?  The system protects him, gives him some kind of “punishment” so people can argue justice was served, but DOES NOT PRESS CHARGES. No sex offender registration for this seemingly-pedophile piggie.

And that’s what’s wrong with this situation, and to a further extent, this country.

GUNS: Analyzing shooting rampage statistics after Newtown school Shooting

Average deaths in a shooting rampage when stopped by police: 14.3
Average deaths in a shooting rampage when stopped by civilians: 2.3.

It should be noted, though, that that includes unarmed civilians.

So really, a civilian actually doing something reduces the average from 14.3 to 2.6 — 11.7 people saved on average. Them being armed only saves 0.8 lives a shooting (1 life every 4 out of 5 shootings).

The point being: Doing something is better than doing nothing, and waiting for the police is what will give you the lowest odds of surviving. And if someone is going to be a hero – they will a better job at doing so if they have the tools available.

TASER THURSDAY: Officer shoots 10-year-old boy with Taser for refusing to clean cop car

At first you think, “maybe the kid spit on his car or did something that would require cleaning”, but no.

This is a piece of shit cop who went to a career day at school, asked kids if they wanted to clean his car, then tasered the one kid who didn’t want to.

Then didn’t get him medical attention after he blacked out.

So-called officer Chris Webb of the New Mexico Department Of Public Safety should be publicly shamed, fired, and barred from any position of power ever again.

His name is CHRIS WEBB. He should be in jail.

VIDEO: Problem Cop Richard Jouppi Punches Wheelchair-Bound 50-Yr-Old Repeatedly In Face

A drunkard threatens to throw a jacket, and slightly slaps a cop in the face…
…vs a cop punching a man in a wheelchair 3 times in a row, and throwing him backward into the ground.

A bit disproportionate, especially considering the cop is supposed to be sober, good, and one who deescalates a situation and stops harm.

Lovely that he threatens the person he was supposedly protecting too.

Turns out, this cop is already a bad cop. He’d already signed an agreement stating if he fucked up again, he’d be fired, after tipping off a sex criminal in direct violation of a department’s interests. He lied about how many times he hit the man in the wheelchair on the report. And they dropped the charges against Drunken Wheelchair Man as well. They probably would have had a good case against Drunken Wheelchair Man if Asshole Officer Richard Jouppi HADN’T gone overboard and lied about it.

Of course if a camera wasn’t around, the cop’s lies would have stood and court and been sustained in a conviction. Nobody is safe from police lies as long as are deemed a magical truth by any judge.

Yup. Jaywalking = death sentence. You can see it in the video. A man running away is not a threat, and certainly a man that’s been shot in the back 4 times is not a threat either.

Supposedly they found a gun on him, but there were none of his fingerprints on him. Doesn’t matter if he did have a gun — carrying a gun is our constitutional right.

Imagine how much more this happened before we had surveillance cameras everywhere — back when the violent crime rate was higher than it is today.

Isn’t it funny how the cop’s name is protected from the public, but people who are arrested are a matter of public record? One set of laws for us, another set of laws for them.

THIN BLUE LINE: The South Florida cop who won’t stay fired

Another example of how unions — generally a good thing — can be abused, just like any other power. People who can take our lives in their hands should have a zero tolerance policy with regard to breaking the law.

There should also be another law that doubles the punishment for any crime by police, but I’m sure it would be constitutionally challenged as not being equal to all people. Except it would: Anyone who becomes a cop would be equally affected by this.

This is disgusting, and not how justice is supposed to work.

Sgt. German Bosque is a waste of taxpayer money and a piece of shit pig who should be fired and jailed. Fuck you, “German”. What kind of name is that anyway?

MODERN-DAY REEFER MADNESS: Causeway Cannibal Not High On Bath Salts, you naive fucks

Modern-day reefer madness – if you believed the speculation of a cop, you’re kind of naive.

Not only did the cops trick the entire public, but they accidentally shot the victim! Where’s the fucking taser?

Quoth Rev. Spike: “Way to go shitty ass media, report that this was caused by bath salts, stir up a bunch of drama and ratings. How many people do you think will see the retraction compared to the original hype? How about you try doing your god damned job instead of spreading rumor and speculation?”

I wonder how many people are going to turn around and now say that marijuana was the cause?

TASERS: Chicago cops Taser 8-month pregnant woman for parking violation

What. The. Fuck.

They tasered her for trying to “take off” – but they were ticketing her for parking in a handicapped space she wasn’t supposed to be in, so was she supposed to just stick around in the space she was ticketed for?

Her crime? Ripping up the ticket. This is a parking ticket. This is not a situation to use a taser, which not only can kill a person, but also can affect the unborn child.

She was never actually a threat to anybody. This should be a huge fucking lawsuit. And the superintendent’s excuse?  “You can’t always tell whether somebody is pregnant.”

What a load of shit. Pregnant or not, the only sensible policy is that tasers be used in place of actually shooting someone. And if your’e going to tell me that shooting someone for ripping up a ticket is valid, you really don’t belong in America.

Yet another story that’s something I’ve never quite heard of before, and involves, of course, a person of color.

And oh, they also dislocated her boyfriend’s elbow after he sensibly tried to stop near-lethal force against his girlfriend & child.

FREEDOM: Police Preemptively Raid Apartment & Arrest Activists Ahead of NATO Summit

USA likes to espouse itself as being the freest country in the world, defender of life and liberty.

Yet people are pre-emptively arrested for wanting to exercise their first amendment rights, 25% of all prisoners on planet earth are in our jail system, we have the highest imprisonment rate, and have killed tons of civilians in our various oil wars (Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya).

America’s dead. Perhaps a better use of everyone’s energy is to figure out how to get the fuck out of America, because our “freedom” is mostly based on economics, not principles of actual liberty.

Fuck Chicago Police (for the 10,000th time).

But fuck america for allowing this to happen, and fuck americans for voting in leaders like Bush and Obama who only decrease total freedom, and for having no backbone to fight this bullshit.

POLICE BRUTALITY: 85 shots: US cops use more ammo per man than Germans per year

Slightly confusing, but what the headline really means is “there are many instances where police used more bullets against 1 person than Germany used in an entire year against all criminals in the country”.

Now, if you extrapolate out the fact that the U.S. population is almost 4 times that of Germany’s, the real number to compare is not 85 shots, but about 340 shots.

Contrast to America, where *to stop a reckless driver* last year, police fired over 110 shots, including shooting 7 innocent bystanders. We routinely shoot unarmed people 40-90 times.

Yeah…. It’s not just our larger population at work. When our police use more bullets in a single incident than a country previously associated with fascism does all year — it gives one major pause at how fucked up and broken our system is, and how piss-poor our over-militarized, trigger-happy police operate.

Not making assumptions here. I’ve worked them them, eaten lunch with them, and heard them talk about how they want someone to cause them to have a chance to shoot them. It’s sickening.

ABUSE OF AUTHORITY: Kelly Thomas video: Homeless man beaten and tasered to death as he cried for help

Freshly released: Actual video of police killing a homeless man. The video is FORTY MINUTES IN LENGTH, with TWENTY MINUTES OF BRUTALITY.

If 6 officers couldn’t take this guy down in less than 20 minutes, none of them deserve to keep their job.

For once, the pigs are actually charged with murder and manslaughter. But wait. Only 2 of the 6 officers were actually charged. Seems to be that if you mindlessly dogpile onto an existing situation, you’re just fine. They never charge everyone who actually did it.

“I just started smashing his face to hell” -one of the officers
