After watching Interstellar, we decided to check out this Christopher Nolan movie. We had previously passed over this as being about a subject that we are not necessarily interested in. But since we love all of the other Christopher Nolan movies, and The Prestige was in the top #250 on IMDB (it’s #52 as of 20150801), we decided to go ahead and check it out.
CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS: I definitely liked this one better than Claire. I found that even though the subject wasn’t something that I would seek out, this movie got me interested in it, and it held my interest and I enjoyed the ride. It was no Memento or Interstellar, but I thought it was worth watching.
CLAIRE’S THOUGHTS: Yea, this was just another “Black Swan“. It seems Nolan wants to try to make interesting movies out of non-interesting subjects, and it seems like this actually works for most people. It didn’t work for me. Less informative than a documentary, and less interesting than a movie about something I cared about… This is just a movie about rivaly, with gross un-modern clothes and sets.
AND THE FUCKING MOVIE BLEW OUR PolkAudio cs400i CENTER SPEAKER. We’re talking an MSRP $300+ speaker. Fortunatley I had a spare to bring up, but the $70 Tweeter is blown. All during Tesla’s bullshit. Nikalai Tesla and Christopher Nolan blew my fucking speaker. I’ve never blown a speaker so decisively in my life. FUCK MAGIC, FUCK THIS MOVIE, and FUCK whover it was who recommended this to me. It wasn’t worth reconfiguring home theatre setups in 2 rooms just to watch this disappointment of a movie.
