CLAIRE’S THOUGHTS:
2 french movies in a row…
So much visuals! The genre for this movie might just actually be “visual”, because that’s really what you’re getting with this. The story is less defining of the movie than the style.
A completely unique aesthetic reminiscent of Naked Lunch, steampunk, Brazil, Fraggle Rock, and of course Science Of Sleep (previous movie by same director). This is definitely better than Science Of Sleep.
But then it got sad. Real sad. And that didn’t stop being a sadness.
But mostly… Watch this movie to SEE it. It’s pretty amazing. No reason for them to do all that stuff, but they do, and it’s neat. This would NOT work as [well as] a book.
CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS:
This had a lot of quirky visuals. At times, it seemed to be trying to be weird for weirdness sake, but it worked overall. I thought of The Naked Lunch in many ways. It was interesting, but it did end up sad.
